Is This Healthy?

Well I started working out 3/3/06. I weighed 152.2 lbs on that day. I have since then taken in 460g of protein and now weigh 156.4 lbs (+4.2lbs) as of 3/6/06. I was reading that it is normal to gain 1-2 lbs a week. I have gained 4 lbs in half a week, and wonderinf if this is normal for the first couple weeks of weight training or if I need to eat differently. I have only worked out twice--1 time on 3/3/06 and another on 3/5/06. Please let me know if this is healthy or what I need to do if it is not healthy.

Thanks,
Adam

460g of protein a day? or 460 in those 3 days. If you're doing 460 a day forget about it because your body doesn't need that much thus will excrete it. get about 150 - 200 a day for your bodyweight. I woodn't say that's unhealthy but make sure you're consistant with your weigh ins. And by the sounds of it you'll have no trouble reaching that goal of 160Lbs.

gained 4.5lbs in 3 days? err that seems a little bit crzy. Just make sure you workout enough so that u use that protein up and you should be fine.

I'm thinking a lot of that is water weight. I went from about 142.8 to about 150.0 in less than two days. The first weigh in was after playing three hours of bball and not eating much. Second weigh in was after eating and drinking water like crazy after freaking out that I was so light.

were those measurements taken at different times of day? on the same scale? that seems like quite a gain.. but possible

take a poop and reply again :D
yeah man dont take any notice of your weight in lbs its too small of a measurment.

this is the gory bit. over the day your body will store 1-3lbs of water depending on your size. this is natural but can be reduced by drinking more water and eating less salt (this tells your body that there is no need to store water)

poo can weight a fair bit. I often weigh myself before and after. I’ve not done very extensive research but I’ve worked it out that an over due trip to the bog can weigh you down 2lbs, possibly more.

Urine - most people piss about 500mls at a time which is worth approx 1lbs.

so in total that’s a variance of 6lbs. so you see the only way you can get a true reading of your weight is to weight yourself every morning before you eat or drink and after a visit to the bog. You then have to workout the average of the last 3-4days and that’s how much you weigh.

But then that’s getting obsessive. I'd suggest not bothering at all and just looking in the mirror every few days to see what you think rather than some bogus numbers that are prob wrong anyway.

by the way, legally digital scales only have to be accurate within 7% of the actual and dial scales only have to be accurate within 7% +/- 1/2lbs. So you really don’t know if your scales are telling the truth anyway.

during a medium intensity 2hour workout you feet will sweat over half a pint each. No wonder our trainers need so many breathing holes!!!!

I put on 5lbs in 2 days back a couple months on a weekend trip I took. Oh wait that wasn't muscle .. it was all chocolate cake, or is chocolate cake = to muscle... hmmm

I may have to do a study on the correlation between chocolate cake and strength. Samson had his hair, maybe I have chocolate cake.

weigh yourself in the morning, FIRST THING before u put chlotes on even:p then u get the most exact number, since u dont have alot of water and stuff in ur body.. ohh and not quite the first thing, go to the toilet first:p
