is this a good excercise to replace shoulder press?

I prefer not to train with machines, and avoid loose weights whenever possible. Do you think its a good idea that instead of doing traditional shoulder presses with weights in both hands on a chair, i would do this:

Standing on my hands basically being upside down, balancing against a wall (the palms then being as close to the wall as possible, and the back and legs keeping the balance on the wall). Then move the head to the floor and push it up again so that the arms are straight. This with 3sets of 5 reps.

I've tried it now but as i'm new to it, it's not that easy. I read from a webpage that if i couldn't move the head all the way to the floor and back up, i could pile some books under my head, shortening the whole movement. With time as results improve, i'd remove the books.

any ideas?

You mean handstand push ups?

I have tried them they are very difficult.

I cant even do one!

Don't 'replace' your shoulder presses.

Do both.

e.g.

Monday shoulder press

Wed handstand pushups

Fri shoulder press

Chances are that your shoulder press will improve your push up, and the push up will improve your shoulder press.
