Is running really worthwhile?

Running makes you sexy. It's a fact.

If you're doing it simply for weight loss, then no. You can get the same results from simply doing elliptical or other forms of cardio.

Just to note though, most people can't run for more than 10 seconds.

i understand HIIT burns more calories and for a longer period.

but the poster said it was a waste of time doing ss cardio which i do not agree with.

It's certainly not a ' waste of time ' .....per se.

However, if your primary goal is to shed fat and you want to use 30 minutes of steady state cardio to get you there, then the more ' optimal approach ' is to do 30 minutes as hard as you possibly can. Because, if you focus only on the calories burned during those 30 minutes, going the ' hardest you can ' will burn the most calories.

And by ' optimal approach ' I mean, maximize the benefit in the least amount of time or for a given amount of time ( all other things being equal ). So, if you're talking about 30 minutes of steady state cardio - and your primary goal is to lose fat - doing that 30 minutes as hard as you can is the' optimal approach ' IMO.

250 calories in half an hour every day is 1/2 lb a week and with a calorie deficit i believe it has its place.

And you'll lose it a bit quicker if you go harder and burn 350 calories in half an hour instead of 250....that's all I'm saying...in other words, maximum results in a minimum ( or set / given ) amount of time.

I'm cutting at the moment and do ss cardio and im seeing gains to say that its not worthwhile IMO is a bit extreme:)

Again, nothing wrong with ss cardio.

I'm simply saying, that doing ss cardio as hard as you can burns more calories than doing ss cardio at a easy or moderate pace. And losing fat is about losing calories.

hey man i agree with everything you`re saying:beerchug:

both types of cardio have there merits as my cut progresses i`ll most likely switch to HIIT....at the moment im glad i can run for 30 mins:)

thanks for the reply wrangell
