Is all cardio created equal

I have a strong hate for running due to the pain it causes in my back and knees. I am sure, that my running form is incorrect but that is another topic.

If you can get your heart rate up to the same beats/min on an elliptical or bike as you would by running will there be a long term disadvantage from swaying away from running in place of these different cardio's. Or whatever the cardio may be rowing, jumping rope, swimming etc..

Bottom line is there added advantages in picking one cardio program over another.

best bet is to do different types of cardio all the time. eliptical one day, treadmill another, bike another...basketball/soccer on the weekends.

on running, try a treadmill, as they absorb a lot of impact..most find them more comfortable to run on.
