Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement! To be honest, I feel considerably more positive and at ease with my weight and my health in general than I have in a long long time!

Today I walked around 3miles, and ate pretty well. Didn't get much sleep last night so not going to do any lifting. My body feels entirely unsore, so I think it will be kettlebells tomorrow evening! Perhaps a 16 hour fast too.

Happy weight loss everyone!

Would love to know how the fast works out for you as far as long term weight loss :) My understanding is fasting is a healthy thing to do periodically though I've never tried it before.

This morning I had to fast at least four hours before the metabolic test and even though the test was early and I wouldn't have eaten much earlier than I ended up eating anyway, just the word "fast" made me extremely hungry lol as if I'd been fasting for 24 hours.

Hi Kj67, thanks for stopping by! Fasting can be weird - at the moment I'm ridiculously hungry, but I expect it will pass in 30mins or so! I'm also very interested to find out what happens long term; while I quite enjoy the fasting I dont think I will want to do it a few times a week forever. I am also a little worried about what will happen when I start eating maintenance calories, but thats a long way off :) I'm quite tempted to do a bulking phase (maybe 18 pounds, from 182-200lbs) and then cut back down to goal weight. But I can worry about that... in April maybe? :hurray:

I have been doing well the last few days! Tuesday I walked around three miles and did a shoulder kettlebell workout:

Great job on losing the 17 pounds!!! They say that fasting and not eating will make you gain weight or lose muscle mass and stuff and I'm not 100 percent convinced, I have ate like a pig the past 4 days after doing so good,.. you made me laugh when you said "jump off the wagon" because that's excatly what I did this week. But on the fasting thing, that's what I'm going to be doing pretty much all weekend hopefully to makeup for how bad I did the last 4 days I wont be eating "nothing" but pretty close to nothing.

Thank you for posting your experience on here I enjoyed reading through your diary and cant wait to see the progress you make from here on out!!

Hi Naif,

...was so great to hear your initial experiment gave you 17lbs. loss ! great work. - I will need to read up on intermittant fasting....you may be on to something ......

- & I had no idea that a kettle-bell workout could burn so many calories.....I might need to think about considering some resistance or weight-work down the road...

- anyway....keep up your good work , your dedication is an inspiration,

wishing yu continuing success,

Maryann C.

Hello everyone! Hope it's been a great weekend for all :)

Jessica23 & MaryAnnC - many many thanks for the support and kind words! I never really thought anyone else would find anything valuable in my diary - and it's really motivating to know you guys have enjoyed reading it :D

Jessica - Sorry to hear you jumped off the wagon too,but really happy to hear you've jumped back on! Good on you! I hope the near-fasting went well, I I'm looking forward to finding out how you got on with it :hurray:

MaryAnn the kettlebells are pretty awesome, and some studies report up to 20kcal/per minute being burned! They are pretty easy to use, but it's also easy to hurt yourself (I found that out the hard way).l eventually read a few books (not that helpful) and watched a lot of free instructional videos on youtube (very very very helpful!). I really do love kettlebells :hurray:- let me know if you ever give them a try!

It has been a pretty good weekend (for the diet and exercise anyway). Both days have been 1600-1800 kcal, and I got some exercise in.

Saturday - 0.8miles walk. 30 mins cycling at home. Some push ups :)

Sunday - 0.8miles walk, 30mins cycling at home.

Woop :)

Two weeks today and I'll have my weigh-in. Pretty excited, might have a look on the scale on thursday morning... but maybe not. I'm very tempted to have a glass of wine tonight but think I'd better wait till my partner is home tomorrow (she works nights ), less likely to drink the bottle then!

Hope everyone is super.

Hi Naif , just wanted to pop-by & say hello,

looks like your week is going fairly good - 5lbs. over 3 weeks sounds like a really healthy plan ,

good work on resisting the wine 'til your partner could share it with you .....

~ I am doing a modified Rotation Diet this week (1,200 cals alternating with 1,500) - so far, looks like it might be a good week at my end too....this alternating calorie intake might just be something good .

cheers,

Maryann .

Hi MaryAnn,

Many many thanks for stopping by, it really helps to know people are following my diary

It's been a hectic week :willy_nilly:, did one 16 hour fast and kept roughly to my calorie budget everyday but one. On that day I only went up around 2600 which is just about my AMR anyhow. Still not impressed with myself :D the rest of my time I ate around the 1800 mark, probably fluctuating between 1700-1850. It's a comfortable range for me. It's either three good sized meals (breakfast. lunch, dinner) or if fasting till lunch/dinner two big meals and a snack :)

I had a bit of a rest this week, I wasn't used to all the walking and my calves were sore as buggery after the week before last!

This week I did 2 lots of weight work. Cycled for maybe 1.5 total over three sessions, walked four miles one day, and maybe another mile another day.

So all in all, it's been good.

I had a sneaky peek on the scales - they said I was a fair bit lighter. So yay! One week till weigh in. Should be a good one :D

Been a good day!

Lots of word done from home and from the office. Fasted till 5pm, will have ate 3 meals before bed -1600ish kcal. Walked 2.5miles, did some push ups, doing a new push up program so hopefully will see some strength gains soon! Trying to get 100 push ups in a row... will be happy if I can do 50 by Christmas!

Jingle bells and a happy new week to all

Naif

Hey Naif ....glad to hear your sneaky-peek at scale is looking good ( always nice to see some reward for the efforts eh ? )

- building muscle good-plan for increasing calorie burn ..... 100 push-ups in a row - wow-good goal ....( I'll be happy when I can do 10...lol) -

A question - you mentioned that some-days you keep track of calories just in your head - how do U do this ?

...do U ball-park a lot of foods/servings to be able to do this ?..... or do you stick to a very routine set of foods/serving sizes so you "know" easily how many calories in each?...

( just curious - while I am getting used to logging my food in the little note-book I keep in my kitchen drawer ) - having an easy way to count calories in my head would be helpful when out/away from home....

cheers Naif, keep Up your good progress,

Maryann,.

Hello!

MaryAnn - Thanks :hurray: I tend to do a bit of both! In any given week a lot of my meals are the same. This week, I'm having a lot of tuna sandwhiches on wholemeal rolls - I counted the first one and it was easy to remember after that. It also helps that I tend to eat the same types of pasta, rice, chicken breasts, and bacon so they are easier to remember too. A lot of the difficulty/variation is in frozen stuff, types of breaded cod/chicken, and certain raw meat (steak is a bit of a nightmare)... so there is sometimes a lot of weighing involved (potatoes are a pain), but I just keep the tally in my head all day,. for example after breakfast im at 700, after lunch 1200 and after dinner 1790ish. I probably get it quite wrong somedays though!

I think the only reason it works is because I normally only eat at home/or take food from home and if I buy a sandwich I make sure it's in a pack with nutritional info on it.

If i do have a meal/drink out and cant count it (most restuarant/cafe food) which is maybe every other week, I just cross my fingers and make the best guess I can!

To be honest, it has been nice not worrying about it all so much but I think I'll be going back to a physical diary myself... probably a notepad on the fridge! I really miss the certainty of it!

Today was okay, walked 2.5miles and ate okayish. Around 1700kcal

Hoping tomorrow will be filled with exercise, planning some walking and kettlebells in the evening :willy_nilly:

Thanks Naif, that helps....just keeping a running calorie tally in your head..... good trick for when away from home/ away from my note-book. - as you say - not exact....but better than no awareness of the tally at all....

thx

maryann C.

Walked 2.5 miles yesterday but started too feel a cold coming on in the evening - and fell asleep before my last meal so calories were a little low. Feeling rough today, but nothing a lazy day or two wont cure, might go nap! If I have energy later will do more push ups. Hope all are well

xx

Hey Naif - hope the "cold" goes away soon for ya.

...how many push-ups are you up to ? ....

...my walking speed is starting to improve I think, am getting farther/more distance in my 1/2 hr noon walk.- will need to add a bit to my route soon.

cheers,

Maryann C. :seeya:

Hello!

Maryann - I can do about 19 in a row now, which isnt great :( but is an improvement! I have been following a workout I found online, couldnt complete the first week successfully (it was hard!) so starting again at the first day until it works - will edit it into this thread later!

Way to go on speeding up the walking! I know what you mean about needing to add some distance, I walk a lot more than I used to now but it's always to get somewhere, so 0.8miiles to the office, then so many to the store and so on. I know it all helps and adds up but I think I may have to go for a good 8mile hike, if it ever stops raining.

Today is weigh in day, i lost 7lbs

YAY!!!

I am happy, now weigh in at 226lbs - and I can really see the difference, bought a new suit today 48"chest and 40" pants. Considerable improvement on the 52"chest and 48" pants i was squeezing into last year. Woop. Onwards and downwards!

I will weigh in again in four weeks, so a long time to go. Will go back to counting calories again - but probably not macronutrients.

I want to do more exercise,. or at least exercise more regularly. Will keep calories in the 1600-1800 range.

Hmm hmmm time for push ups and housework!

Hope everyone is super

xx

Hi Naif ! CONGRATULATIONS on 7 pounds lost !! GREAT work !

~ 48"/40" suit - woo hoo - a great Reward of all that hard work - it's always super to see other benefit besides the scale - bet it feels good eh ?

~ good-work on the push-ups advancing - ....( I just tried a few "wall push-ups" - not easy )( and lol- I dare not try proper push-ups on the floor- I'd likely not be able to get back up again...argh...but just U wait 'til I can get some more weight-off too- then I"ll give you some push-up competion !

........you Keep it up Dude - will get to your 100 in no time !

~

~ keep up all the good-hard work Naif ( work-outs, walks , push ups, calorie goals) - & looking forward to seeing your next success with next weigh in ! U are cruising along on your plan ....GOOD WORK !

Hey Naif,

Sounds like your strategy is going really well. I'm back on WLF after a bit of a break and its great to get some motivation form others.

THe whole IF reminded me that I used to do my exercise in the morning before breakfast, and it seemed to help with fat loss.

See ya round

Hello!

MaryAnn - Thanks so verry very much :hurray: your support is really appreciated

AB - Thanks for popping by and for the kind words

I've been a bit lazy with posting this week and mostly because I've been super busy at work :( Which has made it hard to get my exercise in, but I've done a little. This is how the week will look by the end of the day:

Today was pretty crappy. I didnt sleep well last night. Work was not very satisfying. I was tired all day. Partner went to work so I am all alone and bored tonight. I am also increasingly bored of weightloss and dieting, all the same I did the following:

Day 8 of 28

Calories: 1573

Walk 1.6miles

Exercise Bike - 22mins
