Insulin spike

Could some 1 explain what Insulin spikes are used for? and why ppl do it? Just wondering because im a diabetic and take insuline on a regular basis, will this help me with my weight training or something?

Insulin=teh most anabolic hormone in the body. If you can learn to manipulate insulin in the body then you can achieve some amazing results. I don't have any links on hand as my favorites is down at the moment, but you might google insulin and resistance training and see what comes up. Mreik has a reallly really good understanding of insulin due to his schooling and hopefully will come along and shed some light for you.

It is actually really important for someone with diabetes to take in a post workout meal. Added to that you might want to keep a snack on hand as well during the workout itself. Since your glucose will run low and your glycogen will be depleted you need a quick insulin release to your body for a proper restore of these functions. If you avoid this process your glucose levels may become to low and it could cause various issues depending on the type of diabetes you have. Pairing that as well with protein for your amino acid needs for muscle recovery and you have a good post workout rebuild system going on. Some things to note though are your normal glucose levels, what type of diabetes you have and monitoring your ketone's as well as your workout intensity levels. For example Type I you can work at a higher intensity level and frequency than Type II.

As always though when dealing with a medical condition get an okay with your doctor before making any drastic diet or exercise changes.
