[insert witty title here]

Hi All -

I haven't updated this in a while so I thought I would give a short update. Things for me are going well, but as always I am super busy. I am moving in two weeks, so I've been working hard to make arrangements and pack. My diet and exercise are going okay, but I feel guilty that I can't focus more time/energy on these efforts.

This is my plan (because it's always important to have a plan :) )

-Strive to eat healthy and be active whenever possible
-Maintain current weight (between 182 and 183) until Phase 2 of diet

Phase 2 - 20 Pounds To Go
On June 21, 2009 I will begin phase 2 of my weightloss program in an effort to conquer those last 20 pounds. My calendar is empty for the summer, so I should have lots of time to focus on running, staying active, and eating healthy. For the first 2 weeks I am going to be very strict on my diet and record everything I eat in my journal.

I don't want to become too dependent on the diet (read: obsessive) so, after the first two weeks I will make healthy choices each day and exercise 5x/week.

-----------------------------------------

Whooohooo, I'm glad I have a plan and the dates are set. I can't WAIT to move and I know that I can maintain this weight in the meantime. Although I still have 20 pounds to go, I feel great about my body. Yes, I want my stomach to shrink but I'm going to be patient... and I understand that life happens and sometimes you have to alter your schedule.

If I'm able to, I would love to see 180 by June 21st - let's see if I can make it happen! All of this moving should burn some calories, right!? :)

Hey DW. Glad to see you back. I was wondering where you've been.

Thanks for the post on my diary.

So your going into a Phase 2 eh. Well good luck with it. If it is anything close to as successful as the first, you'll hit your goal sooner than you think.

For me, I'm still pushing. Feels like I'm pushing through a wall but pushing non the less.

It's a New Dawn, It's a New Day

Something in me snapped yesterday... and I'm bAaaaAAack :)

I was supposed to run in a 5K race on June 13th (Susan G Komen - Race for the Cure), but was unable to register and commit to the date because 1) didn't really have the expendable cash due to the upcoming move, and 2) one of my friends is getting married that weekend and my wife and I have a lot of other obligations throughout the day. So, I never registered.

Meaning I didn't have anything to work towards and I started to fizzle out. My wife told me yesterday that she really wanted me to participate in the race and encouraged me to go online and register.

I instantly got VERY excited and MOTIVATED! I registered for the race and immediately went to the gym for a quick run (I didn't have a lot of time because we were packing); it felt amazing. I woke up today feeling the same way - re-energized! I got on the scale just to check the number and I have officially maintained. I'm really happy about this because it means I don't have to re-lose pounds I've already lost. (I knew I didn't do awful or anything. I was still running some and eating healthy-ish - but you just never know)

I'm going to run everyday (short runs most days, with 2-3 longer runs) until next wednesday. Then I will take Th-Fri off and race on Saturday.

WHOOHOOO

I'm going to 'borrow' CherryGarcia's formatting and keep track of my miles until race day. I will update everyday :)

I had a very hard run yesterday! 4 miles (longest distance I've ever done) in 93 degree heat. It was HHHHAAAARRRRDD, but I made it and feel so proud :) Hoping to do some light speed work tonight (kinda sore!)

Don't say that, I've got a 4 mile race in a couple weeks. And I have yet to even attempt 4 miles. Did run 3 miles this morning at 28:35. Felt pretty good too.

I think it was mostly the heat that made it so hard. I ran 3.5 miles last week and it was GREAT - I sprinted the last .5 miles and ended in 34 minutes. This time I was sucking wind at the two mile mark (I even made sure to up my calories a little to have extra energy, didn't work- the heat just sucked it out).

Next time I do 4 miles I'm going to go early in the morning so it's not so bad; I don't think you will have a problem :)

Great job on the 3 mile time! Once you get to the 5K you will have a really good time because races automatically make you run faster :willy_nilly:

Well, I didn't fit a run in yesterday. Sigh. I really wanted to but didn't get home from work until 8pm (had a function at my wife's school). The good thing is I ate very well, for the most part and had a lower amount of calories to account for my lack of cardio. Even though I have a crap load of boxes to pack tonight, I am going to fit at least 2 miles in on the treadmill - then I will have long runs on Sat and Sun. I really hope that by the end of the weekend I will be OUT OF THE 180's!!!!!!! I was so close again this morning (180.4).

Well, finding time to run over the weekend was much harder than I expected. I had a great run on Saturday (VERY hilly and didn't walk at all). I wish this move didn't take so much of my time. I run the Komen 5K on Saturday, and I am excited. Even though I haven't been able to run as much as I wanted I still feel fit and healthy, and in the end that's the only thing that matters :)

I didn't make it to the gym AGAIN yesterday, damn I suck! My wife and I didn't get home until 7pm, made dinner, packed, put the kids to bed, packed, and then proceeded to pass out. Hopefully i will make it today (although the evening schedule is already packed). I can't wait until this move is OVER. I will be so much closer to work, and my wife and kids will be home for summer break. Meaning I will have loads of free time every morning and afternoon ;) I can NOT WAIT!

I've already scouted out some trails near my new house. There are two lakes within 3 miles and each one has a paved trail running around the lake. One is 3 miles, the other is 4.25 - AWESOME. I can't wait to explore this new area and find trails that are actually close to my house (I have to drive 18 miles to get to a paved trail now).

Although I've been doing better I still plan to 're-start' my diet on June 22, 2009. I can't wait to re-commit myself to this process and (hopefully) see the last 20 pounds melt off. I know I have this in me, and it's frustrating to not have the time or energy to fully commit.

I picked up my race packet last night for the Susan G Komen 5K. I am really excited about the race, yet a little nervous about what my final time will be. Since I haven't been training very well, and my running is so sporadic, I have no idea what to expect. I really wanted to hit the 27-28 minute mark, and I better freaking get under 30 minutes this time. I CAN do it :)

The SGK run should be no problem for you DW. I feel confident that you'll do great. You have a strong enough will power to accomplish anything when you set your mind to it.

Susan G Komen 5K

SSSSOOOOOO???????

How did you do?

Did you break 30?

I was just coming in here to write about the 5K. We have no internet at home because of the move, so I had to wait until I got to work.

The 5K was an extremely hard, but a very good experience. I ran the entire race and made it up every last hill (this course had a lot of hills, ugh!)

My final time was 29 minutes 4 seconds - WHOOHOOOO

Even at 7am, it was very hot here in NC when the race started. There were over 3000 competitive racers in the 5K (and over 22,000 people registered for races throughout the day!) The first mile went really well - I felt energetic and made it to the first marker in about 8 1/2 minutes. The second and third miles went through some neighborhoods, and that is when the hills came into play. A lot of people around me walked, and that made me even more determined to RUN up every hill - especially knowing I had to walk up several hills during my last 5K.

Once I got to the last .5 mile, all of my energy was gone. I NEEDED to see the finish line in order to keep going, but it still wasn't in view. I pushed and pushed, but I know my pace was suffered. I finally made it to the end and felt very proud of myself... but so tired!!!! I immediatley drank 4 bottles of water, lol... that helped :)

Now... when is the next 5K :)

Awsome:party:

I knew you could do it.:cheers2:

Awesome! Congratulations! It is an awesome feeling isn't it?

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the support. I haven't hit the trails in a while and I definitely miss it - but my entire house is officially unpacked! WHOOHOOO

I start phase two of my diet on Monday and I'm really looking forward to it... and REALLY looking forward to getting these last 20 pounds off. I can't wait to go out and explore the trails near my new house :)
