Hey there! Let me introduce myself-

My name is Janette, I'm 20, and currently at my highest weight - 185 at 5' 2". I'm at school and live on my own, so the ease of getting nice, fresh foods, is a bit difficult without a car. I've tried this weight lose thing, a lot. Or what I would consider a lot. Ever since middle school, I've been gaining about 10 pounds a year. And even though I would loose some of it, it would always come back. It's frustrating, as I'm sure everyone here knows. But, this time, this time I want to change. I want to stop being a lazy college kid eating chips while killing zombies on her computer. While my boyfriend loves my easy going life style, I get frustrated with it sometimes. And after he 'Accidental' pointed out the marks on my belly, I've decided I can't stand this anymore. So we've spoken together, and now, this will be my hardest effort yet. Because, you know, when the zombies come, I don't want to be the chubby left behind.

Also, I'm doing this for my mom. I live very far away from family. She promised if I got to 130, my goal, she would quit smoking. I'm not going to tell her my weight loss plans, just show up at home for holiday and surprise her. And my dad's a health nut...so yeah. And I need to do this for myself. For my future, for the prospect of having children.

My plan, which might be changed by the end of the day as my boyfriend says he has this amazing plan he is going to surprise me with today. (Surprize! He got me a ps3, it doesn't work. So my new goals are set to get replacement parts. Smart boy) But as of now, my plan is to set up weight lose goals, and each time I hit a goal, I get to treat myself to something I really want. Also, I am not going to work out right away in my plan, I will get used to a new eating habit (Me planning my meals for the next day every night, and setting everything up before bed, so the next morning it's easier). Also, I walk about 2 miles to school everyday. Later, I will slowly add activities that I like to use as exercise. Such as the wii, xbox kinect, camping, hiking, going to playgrounds, and having nerf gun battles.

good luck with your weightloss.

i did notice that everyone of your prizes to yourself on losing 5lbs is something to keep you indoors though..all games. how about something to get you outdoors and get some fresh air?!

just a thought.

all the best

Let's think of some things I love to do outside that can also be done in winter!

:D

hmmm,

Camping, always wanted to do winter camping

Sledding, duh

Hiking, I love hiking, but I love downtown and don't know of good places to go to

Ice skating, Dad's a hockey player, so I have to be good at this

Cleaning, Yes, I love cleaning. It's not outdoors, but it is an activity

More outdoorsing, I love camping so much! Boyfriend...does not. But he does love me, soooo

Zombie hunting, it's a legit thing I used to do. Nerf guns and people playing human/zombies in the middle of the night

I really need to plan a camping trip! And get my friends on board...

Welcome to the forums Janette!

I am a strong believer in calorie counting for weight, especially for beginners. I highly recommend you keep a running log of what you eat at the very least, and do some research online if you cannot find the calories listed on the back. I think you already have a pretty hefty workout (2 miles to school, 2 miles from school), and you have AWESOME motivations (your mom, those games, boy friend).

I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted =)

You make a good point! While I've done calorie counting in the past, I got lazy and didn't do it after a while. But, this is my new start so I'll try it again!

I'll post it on here as a way to keep working on it! Once I get home from school I'll make sure to get all the food info.

Great! Oh, and visit this site too: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Just enter in your information. If you want to lose weight you have to stay under the "Maintenance" - at least a 500 calorie deficit if possible

So lets see, with my meal plan for today, my calories will be

Breakfast - Oatmeal and tea,water = 180

Lunch - Soup, grilled cheese/tomatoes, salad, tea, water = 690

Dinner - Soup, tea, water = 380

Total = 1250

Maybe I should add a little more?

Hey Janette!

Welcome to WLF :) Great to see that you want to change your lifestyle. Like Jay says, try adding outdoorsy activities too. They are a great way to not just lose weight, but also connect with nature :) Try to plan a time frame for yourself for losing weight. Plan these around holiday times. That way, you will be doubly motivated to lose weight. Good luck

Today was my first day, it went...ok on the eating part. It's so hard to change habits. I ate about 1400-1500 calories today. So food is going to be something I'll need to deal with better. I'll see how it goes tomorrow. I seem to get hungriest at night when I'm bored. I did work out though! Along with my everyday walk to school, I did a 20 minute video that I used to do when I lost a bunch of weight in high school.

Tomorrows goals are to eat a little healthier, and do 2 work out videos. One in the morning before breakfast, one after lunch. My plans on food are -

Breakfast -

2 boiled eggs

tea

banana

After work out snack -

Fiber one bar and tea

Lunch -

Tortilla

---with cheese, refride beans, tomatoes, sour cream. (Sour cream is a killer, definitally a love food. I'm going to try and work it out of my diet slowly)

salad

----with added tomatoes

After work out snack -

Glass of fat free skim milk

Dinner -

Tortalini with tomatoes

salad with tomatoes, bacon bits, eggs

Night snack -

Gronola bar

Things are going good! The fact that someone checked up on me is really awesome! I've been really busy this weekend, but I've been eating really well, keeping about 1200-1300 a day. And I've worked out quite a bit. Another thing, my dad and I decided that we are going to train for a 5k parathon in june. http://runforyourlives.com/

Hiya, welcome to the forum!!!

Great to see you're off to a good start, good on you for keeping on track even when busy. Hehe I really like your rewards, what are your favourite games?? Husband and I are a lil bit on the geeky side, I'm more PC/Xbox than anything else, but I really like some Wii games too. I say that though because we haven't had the money to buy a PS3 (and we blew up our poor dear PS2 during a very long and drunken night with Guitar Hero).

Good luck on your goals! And awesome that you have something to work toward fitness-wise now, plenty of time to train for that 5k! Are you going to set a goal time to work towards?

Oh my god that Obstacle Course looks fun (I've always wanted to run away from Zombies :D). I don't think I'd be able to enter it. I'd probably get a heart attack or something

It's great to hear that you're still going strong, and I wish you the best of luck with your 5k marathon goal. It looks like you have about a year to get ready, and that's plenty of time!

I'm keeping up a video blog to, just another thing to keep me motivated. http://www.youtube.com/user/LoveRainbowyUnicorns?feature=mhee

I'm a huge pc gamer fan myself...even just got back from a lan party from last night. I feel good about it because they had pizza and chips and pop everywhere, but I stuck with my food I packed for myself, tortilla sanwiches~!

I think my Dad and I are going to register sometime soon, so then I can't back out! I also think I'm giving up a free trip to porto rico for christmas with my boyfriend just so I can go home and train with my dad. (He has this whole system set up for training, since he always wanted one of his girls to do a marathon with him.)

Guess what! I weighed myself this morning, 179.8! Yay~!

Congratulations!

Sorry I couldn't post sooner. I was looking around and I thought your thread got deleted or something. And GOOD FOR YOU for sticking with your diet. I don't think I could ever do that with chips and pop around, especially at a party.

So what did you do at this lan party? I've never been to one but I heard it's one amazing game fest.

(Congratz on the 179.8 :D)

[Edit]

I just watched your video. Good job on making a vlog, I don't think I could ever do that!

I like your newly updated reward list. I have a Ninja Blender and I can honestly say that thing is one powerful contraption. Ice to Snow in 3 or so seconds, the smoothest juice. Great investment if you love homemade vegetable or fruit juice, or if you like to have summer snowball fights.

And yes, I did watch everything. I'm happy that you have a ton of support around you, especially your parents and boyfriend. You can do it Janette!

The lan party was fun, though we didn't do much. We played a ton of Team Fortress Two, Starcraft, and Minecraft, and I died, a lot. But still, loads of fun hanging out and making new friends~!

I acturally spoiled myself and got the blender. it's changed everything! So nice! And so easy to clean! I make veggie/fruit smoothies for all of my fruit/veg needs. It's super duper handy! And thanks so much for watching my video
