I'm gonna do it!

I have been having such a good time reading everyone else's diary I forgot to make one earlier this morning...so here goes!

Let's start with some statistics: I am 23, I have 2 kids, I am 5'8", I currently weigh 201, and on December 31 I was at 207 (my all-time high non-pregnant weight), I want to get back to 125, but I would feel great at 145.

I was fat in 4th 5th and 6th grade, thin from 7th-freshman year in college then I got pregnant (by the way I was bulimic from 8th grade until I found out I was having a baby) then I quit throwing up and gained 85 pounds. I got back to 145 then got pregnant again...and bought a weight loss center. You'd think that I would be the most motivated person in the world to NOT GET FAT AGAIN, but I went back up to like 186, I left thehospital at 179 and never really lost anymore.

I have been up and down over the last 2 years, usually between 170 and 192 then I shot up to 207 a few weeks ago.

Even though I don't purge I still binge...a lot. I can't get over my obsession with food, I sneak it whenever I can, I lie about how much I eat, I plan binges days in advance. I was reading another blog and she called herself a reverse anorexic...THAT IS ME TOO! I never feel fat until I see myself then I am disgusted. I was to the point that I was outgrowing my 2 pairs of "fat pants."

BUT THAT WAS ALL IN THE PAST. I DID GREAT TODAY AND I WILL DO GREAT TOMORROW!

I AM SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS SITE AND ALL OF YOU! I AM SO MOTIVATED AND INSPIRED!

So right now I am doing the lemonade diet which has worked for me in the past and for me is a great way to jump-start my weight-loss efforts. The last time I did it I lost 13 pounds in 7 days. After I'm done with this diet I will transition to the basic healthy eating plan. I am just going to get over my bingeing!

Lol, I've tried the cabbage soup diet, the lemonade diet, you name it. I am almost never able to stay on the diets as long as they expect you too. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Yeah, I have tried all the mentioned diets and somehow they never worked for me, I could not stay on them long enough...Then I tried to cut ALL sweets and restrict the type of food I ate which never worked either.. i just felt so deprived... the only thing that worked for me is the good ol' calorie counting and exercising.
I was 160-166 prior to my pregnancy and then 205-210 after I had my daughter..
Wishing you good luck on your journey!!! I was about your weight when I started although I am only 5'4". So you see it is absolutely doable!!!

The problem with those crash diets, as soon as you start eating real food again you willgain weight back... you're better off dropping the quick fix diet mindset and working towards a lifestyle change and taking it slow and steady...

Hey girls, thanks for the posts!

I think the reason the lemonade diet works for me is because I am an all or nothing kind of person. I have been counting calories since I was in 7th grade, (and I do it for other people all the time), but when I am tempted with food I just say "What the hell" and go for it. It's like whenever there is food around I forget how bad I want to be thin.

But not on this diet I know I can't have it. It's not a matter of "I can have a little bit" (which invariably turns into the whole thing for me), it makes me actally stop and think about what I put into my mouth. There are so many times my daughter will offer me something and I'll take it and then be like...Oh yeah, I am NOT going to eat that.

Anyway...This is a good jumpstart for me and after I'm done I'll have to go back to that counting calorie stuff...but hopefully this will help me open my eyes as to how poorly I was eating.

Thanks! Trust me, I know. But this really does work for me because it helps detoxify my body and when I do this and follow with a sensible 1200-1300 calorie diet it just gives me that jumpstart. It also helps me stop my bad habits and think about what I am putting in my mouth.

But I really do appreciate you looking out for me. I see you giving great advice to lots of other people on this site, you seem like a wonderful person.
GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOUR GOALS!:hurray:

My status

So yesterday forgot to include my measurements...I am so glad none of you know me because this is definately the biggest I have ever been and it is really embarrassing since I am in the business of helping other people lose weight.

Upper back: 40
Left arm: 14
Right arm: 14
Waist: 42.5
Abdomen: 44.5
Hips: 45.5
Left upper thigh: 27.5
Right upper thigh: 27.5
Left knee: 17
Right knee: 17
Left calf: 15.75
Right calf: 15.75

(By the way, those mid-section measurements were all without me sucking in, which I do almost all of the time...and no control-top pantyhose either!)

So yesterday I did great on my diet, I am so happy because the first day is always th hardest for me. I dreamt that I cheated and had popcorn, what a nightmare!

But it was all worth is because this morning I weighed 195.5!

Now, I know that a lot of what I am losing is water weight but I was retaining so much water weight because I usually eat a ton of salt. In fact, I have a piece of equipment in one of my centers that does a "Body Composition Analysis" and a couple of months ago when I weighed about 185 it said that more than half of my excess weight was water...not fat. You'd think that would have made me lay off the salt but of course I didn't.

You know, at my centers we are always telling people "It didn't take you 2 months to gain that weight so it won't take you 2 months to lose it." But in my case I was to 167 back in September...so I gained 40 pounds 4 months. That's faster than when I was pregnant, and my Doctor says I don't have a thyroid condition so I figure most of it must be water weight. So after I'm off this diet I am going to serously lay off the sodium.

Last night we went to caucus and we had to walk like forever! It was great exercise because I was carrying my 2-year-old. The only thing that was bad was the fact that it was freezing!

I am just so excited because I know I am going to do it! I am doing everything right this time and I am so proud of myself! It is such an inspiration to see how well you all are doing and to hear your words of encouragement!

THANKS!:hurray:

hey girl just wanted to check out you diary since you went to mine and well i just love you persona. I too have a two year old and two other children 7 & 9 years old and am in the 2oolb club wanting to get down to 140lb. well congradulations on getting below 200:party: so what is the lenonade diet is it a form of fasting?

Angel and Mina,

Thanks for the support and encouragement! It really helps me!

The lemonade diet is a liquid detox, but you actually get quite a few calories:
3 lemons @ 45 calories each = 135 (minimum) 270 (maximum)
3/4 C maple syrup = 720 (min) 1440 (max)
So a total of a minimum of 855 (which is pretty low) up to 1710.

But I drink a laxative tea at night, and do a salt water flush in the morning and drink my "lemonade" made with lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper, and I can have all the peppermint tea I want, so it really isn't too bad.

But it was a little hard to take my measurements...a real eye-opener.

What are you girls doing to lose? It sounds like most people are watching calories and getting plenty of exericse which really is the best way to go.

So good luck in your weight loss efforts! Keep me up to date!:grouphug:

Today was good for me. I had a lot of temptations, but I am so proud with how I did! I can't wait to get on the scale tomorrow!

My diet does consist of counting calories. I try to get between 1200-1300 calories. I try to get 100g of protein (so that the body burns fat instead of muscle), 25g of fiber (for digestive purposes, insulin regulation, and to prevent the storage of fat), 7 servings of fruits and vegetables (because they are high fiber, high density, low calorie foods), and eventually I'm going to start working out again. Once I feel better anyway.

Since 1/1/08 I've lost about 4 lbs :)

Hello there I wanna B thin (WBT for short?)

You seem very committed- you have all your measurements there, and that is a great start. I'm not familiar with many detox diets. I just try to incorporate healthy eating and more exercise into my daily routine. It takes trial and error to see what works for you though.

You're the same age as me and you have two kids- which I find incredible! How do you do it all?? I'm glad you've decided to take a positive step in your life. I'd be glad to support you through this journey. There will be lots of ups and downs but I know you can do it!

You sound like me ..a Compulsive Eater... you may want to look up about Compulsive Eating syndrome/ or disorder...

you definitely fit the profile

best wishes
I am on the anti diet ..because diets don't work for compulsive eaters ..its an eight to twelve step guide and I dont binge as much anymore and I am losing weight ..lost ten pounds ...and my next goal is fifteen more pounds by June ... good luck hun ... diets usually don't work for compulsive eaters ...

you feel disgusted after eating ...guilty ...you hide what you eat behind peoples backs ..you keep binging and than you promise the next day .. I am going to do this ..only to find yourself binge again ..
I hope you don't fit part of this profile and are normal ...but if you do .. I would suggest cognitive therapy ..you can even do the therapy on your own ..Barnes n noble has a lot of cognitive books ..having to do with Compulsive binge eating ..and it reteaches you how to eat ..when to eat ..how to cut the subconcious eating ..if you want the names of the books and the one thats helping me the most ..just visit my journal and I will write it as a post ..

wish you the best of luck hun

Hey girl, I just thought I'd pop in on you and see how you were getting along. The measurement is a good Idea. I thought about it but I would just run out of tape before I ever got to the end lol. with the binging i have never had the trouble long term but then there are days that I can never get full so it's not much different........
around here you're never alone. There is always someone who has had the same trouble or something very similar.

see ya around....

 Hooray for you! You are definatelty doing great...and doing it the right way! What you've listed are all the reommendations I give to my clients, except I suggest you take your weight, cut it in half and that is how many g of protein to eat (we get several people in who have 100+ pounds to lose, so they need more protein).

Keep up the good work! I am so excited for you! Thanks for visiting my page.

I am feeling very committed right now...this site and all you guys inspire me every day! I love your quote too, buy the way!

You know, I had my baby girl in college...which looking back I don't know how I did it but I do know that God wanted us to have a baby. (It's a little bit of a long story, but here it goes):

My boyfriend (at the time, now my husband) never really believed in God...it's not that he had any disbelief, his parents just never took him to church or anything. Well, one day (after we had been dating a little over 3 years, by the way we started dating when I was 15), I found out I was pregnant. Our Doctor let us get an ultrasound, and called back a week later to say that we had low-amniotic fluid. I asked what that meant for our baby, she said not to worry and that we would get another ultrasound, but I said I wanted to be prepared so I wanted to know. Well, then she told us that our daughter would probably be handicapped or mentally retarded. Needless to say I cried and prayed all week, and a man my huband worked with approached him and said, "I am a pastor at a small church and I wanted you to know that my congregation has been praying for you."

A week later we went to the University hospital for another ultrasound...only to find that there was nothing wrong AT ALL with our baby.

So, my husband started going to church and I think that one day he would like to become a pastor! Isn't that awesome!?!

And our daughter is like a "super-genius," at least in my eyes. She has been reading since about a week before she turned 3...she is now 4 and can spell tons of words, she is very grown up and very sweet and compassionate.

WE ARE SO BLESSED!

Good luck with all your efforts! I know you can do it! Thanks for the post!

Nataliejo,

Thanks for the post! You know, I think I am a compulsive eater. I mean I am not bulimic anymore but I still do all the bigeing. I really hope that I can lose the weight this time, and I am excited about my progress so far, but you're right about my relationship with food.

You know what I always wonder? When you watch weight loss shows they're always like "I over eat because I had a bad childhood," or "because I was raped," or "because my father never cared about me," or whatever, but I cannot think about 1 thing that ever happened to me that would make me love food so much, I just love the taste of it! I also never feel bad after I eat, I just feel bad that I'm fat. When I'm done eating I just feel nice and full and relaxed, which I'm sure is because food is like a drug to the body.

Anyway, I really appreciate the support. It is people like you who are really helping me do it this time!

Thanks for the humor! I have had to measure a few people who were too big for my measuring tape, but they have been the most dedicated and successful clients I have had! And I know that you will be too!

I really appreciate the support!

Hey there - quickie tip on binge eating.

It's caused by a lack of nutrients in the foods your binge eating.

What????

Ok...let me try to explain.

The stomach is designed to tell your brain to keep eating until your full, right? WRONG!

The stomach keeps asking for food until it gets ALL THE VITAMINS, MINERALS, etc it needs to keep your body functioning.

So, if you're eating foods without much nutritional value, like white bread, candies, chips, etc., your stomach will say, 'mORE MORE MORE!'

Not cuz it wants to make you fat, but because it wants you to eat until you get the minerals it needs.

When you have a binge crazing, eat a handful of spinach. it surprisingly kills my cravings instantly.

hope this info helps! you're on your way girl!
