Im getting fat again

Last weekend I broke my ankle playing volleyball. Now all I have been doing is sitting on my ass and eating. I gained like 5lbs last week and im afraid all my hard work so far is going to be ruined. Once I am able to get around somewhat, I am going to try to get back into the gym. All I am going to be able to do is lift and thats going to be upper body only.

I guess I am just venting some frustrations. I just feel so lazy

Sorry to hear that bro. :(

The weight gain might be water weight. But, since it's already been a week and if you are still gaining weight, don't forget to lower your caloric intake below your BMR or at least don't exceed your BMR until you resume activity again. Also, eat your protein (1 gram x LBM in pounds if not weight training or 1.4 grams x LBM in pounds if weight training) as it prevents muscle loss during bed rest.

Also, consuming green tea extracts (100 mg EGCG x 3 times a day) will help increase your metabolism and you'll burn more calories at rest. However, your body might get used to it and it won't provide much benefit after a few months. So it's a great weight loss tool for you, at least during this period of inactivity.

Also, don't wait any longer to resume the gym. If you have a pair of dumbells start working out your upper body ASAP, as hard as possible, to prevent muscle loss. Bed rest causes muscle loss!

Take care. Hope you get well soon!

Thanks for the ideas. I actually went back to the gym today. Luckily I am in a walking boot so I dont need crutches. I did get a few odd looks when I came hobbling in though.

I have been thinking about taking the green tea extract but im already taking some supplements for weight lifting and wasnt sure if I can take both or not.

OMG that cracked me up. They only WISH they had your dedication! How long is your ankle supposed to be out of commission?

If you were are referring to the GNC supplements (whey, arginine, creatine) then you can take green tea extract. It won't interact or decrease the effectiveness of these supplements. However, stay away from green tea extracts or at least consult your doctor if you are taking Aspirin or any anti-coagulant medication, as green tea has a blood thinning effect. This can affect blood clotting time.

Also, make sure to adjust your caffeine intake as green tea extracts contain caffeine. You'll find more details about the caffeine content on the product labels.
