(I POSTED THIS FIRST PART IN NEWCOMERS SECTION ALREDY sorry, i just think it is an apropriate way for me to begin my diary)

ive been overweight my whole life. Its always bothered me and ive always wanted to do something about it. so im starting now! yesterday i started my "diet" and really all im doing is drinking no more soda (only water so far) cutting out potatoes and such (bad carbs?) and just trying to do smaller portions of healthier foods. im stopping eating after 8. yesterday i did 15 minutes of jogging/sprint for 30 seconds/brisk walk repeat. i have a girlfriend who i love and she loves me the way i am but i feel like our relationship would be better if i was more confident in myself. thats my inspiration. although i know that it is really for my own good. so here is to my success. I hope this forum will be a great place for tips and advice and support. HERE WE GO!!!

Day 2. 200 lbs. GOAL: 190, il start with that. i am 5'7.

yesterday i ran one mile.

today i ran 2.5 miles.

i need to get my gym membership as soon as i get home from school.

Meals today 5/2/10

banana

2 thin slices of turkey and 2 thin slices of cheese on whole wheat wrap.

1 100 cal. low fat yogart. 10 almonds a couple rasberrys

a piece of baked chicken on whole wheat wrap

a piece of baked chicken with a little tomato sauce and some broccoli

good shit, dude. It sucks being fat all your life i know. Don't get crazy and starve yourself like I did and just go back to the same crap after a while. Do it the first time. Good to see you're taking it slow. I recommend writing down everything that you eat. Try counting calories for a day or two to get an idea of what you consume.

oh it looks like you did write it down haha nice! keep it up. We're on about the same level it looks like so i'll keep it up if you do! are you in hs?

im in college, 21 years old. and im in it for life now. i dont need junk as a crutch. and i have started to run until i can get my confidence up enough to take my ass to the gym. running and eating right really makes me feel like im accomplishing something.

i will also keep it up if you do!!!

day 3 of my journey. im already feeling overwhelmed. After my first 2 days of running my lets are so sore. But im going to fight threw it. im about to go for my run right now. i cant wait to get into a gym. i dont care what anyone in there thinks about me. If i want to make my self healthier and better looking, then damn it why should i let anyone get in my way. heres to a successful run.!

don't push it too hard....running can be tough on the body, so a day off isn't always a bad thing! don't worry about anyone at the gym....get in there and have a great workout!

I would suggest figuring out how many calories your body needs and starting eating less than that.

Do you know how to figure that out? Please let me know

frank

I used the calculator from the sticky on the site. im looking at around 1500 after my 30% reduction. I am finding it very hard to count calories.

and at this point i can only run for a little less then 20 minutes at a time before i just feel like i cant do any more. i am trying to do that 2 times a day. Do you get the same effect from running 2 shorter sessions a day?

1500 calories seems too low for somebody who weighs 200 lb. Why are you having trouble counting calories? Are you using an online diet journal, some kind of calorie counting software or what?

im just trying to do it in my head as i go. can you suggest a good online calorie counter? (preferably something free haha)

im very new to this, ive just started a couple days ago as you kno, any additional advice you could give me would be amazing.

Hey there! Looks like you've gotten off to a good start. For calorie counting I used to use the fitday.com calorie counter before I got the program which is SO much faster. I think a lot of other people use spark people as well.
I think you should definitely be eating more than 1500cals a day, you need to add your daily exercise onto your bmr as well.

i use nutritiondata.com and measuring cups and a food scale thingy to measure weight of foods that don't have nutrition labels. I wouldn't do it any other way because i end up eating more than i thought i did
