I'm a little concerned

Hi everyone, I have been reading through some posts since I joined yesterday and quite frankly I'm really concerned for some of the people and the techniques they are using to lose weight.

Portion control is good within reason but just not eating is not a healthy way to lose weight. For alot of people, not everyone. Its important to go to a doctor and have a check up and blood work before starting a diet regime.

Your body body needs food, not just a bottle of water and an apple. Alot of times getting your metablolism working for you will help you considerably. For myself and my wife we eat every 2 hours or so, whether its a snack or a meal. That keeps the metabolism pumping. Also I take a B complex vitamin in the morning and a B12 in the afternoon. They also help the metabolism and give you energy.

There are many ways to lose weight and different people respond better or worse to different types of programs. The important thing is to loose your weight in a slow and healthy fashion, its more likely to stay off that way, trust me the quick ways just dont work. Good luck everyone.

I'mnot sure where you'r'e reading but you'll find that very few people are doing starvation style diets, and if they are, they are shown given better alternatives pretty quickly.

I was reading through some of the daily journals

You know, I can understand where you're coming from somewhat... but honestly, a lot of us try to give "those people" advice asap. "Don't you think your caloric intake is a bit low?" And so forth.... All in all, it's a learning process for everyone. Hell, I speak from experience on this topic. Sure.. I've gone through the idea of cutting back on calories big time would help me to lose weight quickly, but we all know how that story goes: years and years of yo-yo dieting and a slowed metabolism. Big mistake. Learn from it and move on. Some people are just too much in a rush and an apple's better than nothing, in my opinion. The WLF is wonderful because it enlightens those who lack knowledge about fitness, nutrition, etc. (Me being one of those people, of course.. haha) It gives us the support and advice that some of us can't neccessarily find in our own surroundings.

As I have been reading more and more through the site, there really is some fantastic support given to people here. I have been down the starvation road and it doesn't work, if I can help steer someone away from that, it would make me feel good.

Being overweight is tough enough without treading down the wrong path.

I'm really excited about this site and look forward to helping to support and being supported through here.:)

I haven't seen that behavior among people here, but then I haven't really read through any journals either. I'm kind of new here. :)

It's very true what you're saying though!

I agree with your statements though I don't understand why you take vitamins unless there is a deficiency in your diet or it is for a medical reason. I don't subscribe to the notion that supplements are required to have a better quality of life, this you get from the quality of the food you eat.

My doctor suggested vitamins to help my slow metabolism. I have been doing Weight Watchers so I eat the correct amount of points, but not always the correct amount of vegitables, or proteins, and so on. I have been taking a liquid multivitamin from Costco and the vitamin B products now for about 3 months, I really feel they have had a positive effect on my wieght loss and overall health. I have more energy and just feel good. If my body doesn't need some of the vitamins I'm taking, they will just pass out naturally.

Again what works for me may not work for someone else, I would always check with your doctor first before starting with suppliments.

the fact of the matter is though. if you want to lose weight quickly it's never going to do any body any good in the short term. I realise that but at the moment getting the weight off is the most important with me ... and then when im down to a weight i think is reasonable ... i might start thinking about my health issues. But in the state of mind i'm in at the moment... how healthy my lifestyle is isn't really the most important issue.

i'm not sure if other people think that way. but for now : i just want to be thin

how healthy your lifestyle is should be the most important thing, not getting the weight off fast. short term thinking isn't the way to go about changing your life.
if you're living healthy, the weight will come off. it's a package deal.
