Illness and Training

Right guys ive had a cold for a few days, blocked sinuses, headachey etc etc.

Ive not been to the gym for 2 nights and today would be the third (aaagghhh!), just as i was getting somewhere with my new circuit training as well.

How does it affect us fitness wise? will it be setting be back? is it ok to train with a cold? i dont feel too lethargic but then i suppose i wont know how i feel until im there.

anyway, its bugging me (ive become the obsessive i never wanted to be) as i was just getting some good results then it hits me. what does everyone else do when they get ill/catch cold?

please reassure me or tell me to stop being lazy and get to the gym

thanks
ben

I know how you feel mate, i myself have been training and then got struck with an illness that took me out for a week. Anyway, i take this information from Zef Eisenberg from maximuscle and tell you what he says about illness...

"Nothing is more frustrating than makin real progress in the gym, only to be set back months, by catching a cold, flu or other illness and losing the gains you've made in tone (or muscle). Your body is not stupid and if it feels it is being deprived of sleep, being over-trained or malnourished, your immune system will suffer and you'll get ill. Ensure your immune system is in peak form by taking a good strong multi vitamin and mineral."

He also says that protrient from Maximuscle is a good choice Immune Support but im sure that just to sell his products! Anyway, hope that this was helpful! I wud just stick it out until you feel good enough to go back to the gym, but thats just my attitude/opinion!

YOur not being lazy , YOU ARE SICK!!!

Take some time off. People do not understand that exercise is stress on the body and without adequate nutrition and rst, it can weaken your immune system. Eat well, take your multi-vitamins and antioxidants, stay hydrated, and rest.
Why go to the gym? Soo you can leave your germs all over the equipment and get otehrs sick? STAY HOME.

I'ts probably a great time to take advantage of letting your muscles heal nicely. I have been sick for the last 3 days as well, and have not gone to the gym for the simple fact that I am sick.

Stay home and get better.

thanks for the posts

im convinced - one more day wont hurt

although i just heard my gym is shutting next week so i gotta look for a new one - just as i was into the rhythm!

thanks all

ben

You can work out with a cold, if you feel up to it. In fact, a good work out can elevate mood levels and make you feel better. But a word of caution. Listen to your body. If it's tellin you to go lighter, go lighter. Take it easy if you need to. Never work out when with nausea, vomiting or fever. Stay in bed.

Watch what cold medicine you're taking. Medicines with psedoephedrine can speed up your heart. Psedoephedrine and exercise can be a dangerous combination. It can make you light headed, dizzy and even lead to heart attack. If you have to take cold medicine with psedoephedrine, just take it easy at the gym until you know how your body is reacting.
