Hello,

I'm also a 40 year old guy pretty much started at the same time as you. It looks like your weight loss is steady. What are you doing?

Hi Trop,
I used to eat anything I wanted so the first step has been to radically change my diet by just using common sense. No more fried food, avoid fatty food, more turkey, chicken and fish and smaller portions. Its funny.. once you start dieting you realize how HUGE a 12" Subway sub is. 6" is totally enough.

I'm also doing weights every other day and 24-30 min of cardio about 4-5 times a week.

That's great. I try to do something each day, but it doesn't always work out that way. Life is always getting in the way, and I'm not about to shove it away. I'm also trying not to go so much by time but for goals. Each time I run I try to either increase the speed or the distance. Not both. With lifting, I'm just doing whatever. I know a trainer would do me good, but I'll wait for that a bit still.

When do you work out? Before work or after?

On weekdays I've always worked out after work, usually starting around 7:30 or 8 to avoid the big rush.

As it warms up, however, I'm riding my bike to and from work so thats where I'm getting my cardio in. I'll still be hitting the weights in the evenings, tho.

Only dropped .5lb this week.
I'm not too upset tho because the inches seem to be coming off, which is my main goal anyway.

Time to open a fitday account to see if there's some excess (or too little) calories sneaking in to my diet.

Heh, heh. I just realized that you keep editing the original post. I keep going to the end to see what's new. Guess I know now. Good work, by the way.

Thanks Trops.

I'm having a tough time getting below the 200 mark but I'm not upset about it. My main goal is to lose gut inches and while thats still happening I won't obsess over the scale numbers. Plus I've definitely packed on some muscle so net weight loss is obviously going to be reduced.

I've been doing intervals but not as intense as HIIT (I like to call it KHIIT - Kinda High Intensity Interval Training).

I started a serious HIIT program last night so hopefully it'll help me crack into the 100's soon... so YEAH I'm with ya!

What are you doing for cardio? Running, elliptical, treadmill? I tried to do HIIT on the treadmill and almost killed myself changing the settings every minute. On the elliptical I can just go faster. Running, I can do that too. I haven't done it for a week and a half, but I'm going to this week.

Stationary bike. I go from 80rpm in the recovery phase up to about 130 (first interval) to 110 rpm (last interval) and up the level from 11 to 16 or 17.
30 seconds intense, 90 second recovery.

I picked up a skipping rope today and hope to get good enough to use it for HIIT too.

Thought I would add: although my gut is at 39.5 I can fit into 34" pants in many different brands. Not all brands, but many. I guess I have a bit of a 'muffin top' to get rid of.

I have the same situation with my muffin top. My waist is like a 34 and I can fit into a 29.

I just started doing HIIT as well and its sooo awesome!!

Congrats on the weight loss thus far.

Very cool! Very cool! You'll be in the 190's strong by this time next week. I got some catching up to do. :hurray:
