if my bf is over 10% should I even bother with crunches?

Never neglect your ab work. Also, it's not just ABS, it's your whole CORE. More people don't stress that enough. Core = abs, obliques, and lower back

So, AGAIN, never neglect your CORE workouts. Without a strong core, the rest of your body will suffer badly. Just because you can't see a 6 pack doesn't mean that your abs aren't working hard.

I should start doing that. I neglect my core completely. I never understand exactly what "core" was until now...

Are there exercises in weight training that can improve the lower back and obliques?

Its not just the abs, like xtony said, but there are 29 muscles that effectively make up the core area. I dont directly do any core work since I use some unstable lift positions that require the core to synergistically keep me stabilized. The core is the basis for all movement and while you may think that you're not working it, its always being used.

I only have neglected my abdominal workouts because I always have something to do after I go to the gym. Good thing winter is closing in.

Im with the newb mod ( ;) ) on this one, although abs are very important.. If you're just worried about stability I feel doing heavy squats and deads, along with unstable positions on certain exercises is plenty. Although if you want protruding abs, you better hit 'em direct.
