Weight-Loss Icy's Workout Challenge #2

Weight-Loss
I've had some trouble sleeping and I'm not in the absolutely best mood lately. I've slowed down a little, but I'm still going and sticking to my goal of dedicating 1 hour to exercise everyday, doesn't matter if it is just walking.

You are all doing an amazing job. Keep at it.

I think this team challenge is helping me too. I am trying to find ways of working out without JUST working out. Like pacing the office while on the phone, or walking while watching TV, little things like that. Theoretically it all adds up right?

Everyone is doing great! Keep it up :D

Everybody is kicking butt! Keep this train rolling folks!

every step does count Icy. What are you doing when you eat ice cream or a bag of chips? Sitting on your butt most of the time right? So keeping moving is as much about what you aren't doing that is bad for you as it is the actual exercise. Keep moving folks!

Mmm...ice cream and chips...*drools*
I REALLY wanted chips last night, like REALLY REALLY bad. So bad that I almost wrote it on the grocery list, but didn't. I would have made some air popped popcorn but it was super late and that machine is loud so sucked it up and had nothing. I either can't go shopping this weekend, must go AFTER eating, or must have some damn good self control to not go down that aisle...which means if A wants Iced Tea he is doing the shopping himself!

I have debating standing at work, sticking my laptop on the counter edge of my desk and standing. Not really exercise but standing burns more cals than sitting. Perhaps I will eventually, just figure out how far the plugs go or move it back once the battery is low.

Kinda did a big achievement today, might not seem like much, but for me, it's pretty big.

Back when I started this diet/exercise I couldn't even run for more than 3 mins without my ankle aching like crazy and not being able to maintain and having to stop.

Well today, I tried to run again, I did a 12 min mile without stopping, and my ankle felt just a little sore, but nothing major.

Great job Holly!! That is awesome :)

I have been slacking. I'm getting workouts in, but it's just walking and I know it isn't enough. I NEED to step things up :(

Like Icy said, great job Holly! I never thought I would: 1. Want to run or like running. 2. Be able to run for any amount of time.

I've had better success than I would have imagined especially at my weight. I always feel I should mention that getting a HR monitor and keeping in the aerobic zone with a walking/running start made it all possible. It costs a bit, but it has been worth it to me.

Keep it up and hopefully your ankle cooperates. Make sure your shoes have good support and padding. Your ankle is absorbing as much as 3x your bodyweight with each footstrike so padding isn't a luxury. For me that's nearly a thousand pounds of force so my shoes are aptly named "The Beast". They aren't sleek or light, but they are sturdy and well padded. So far, I haven't had much soreness or discomfort and I have a bad ankle, knee, hip , and lower back all on the left side.

It's a catch 22. I'm heavy and I could get lighter by running, but It's hard to run because I'm heavy. Take things slow, make sure you have good shoes, and listen to your body. That' worked for me so far. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction. Good luck!

I have had ankle pain since I broke it years ago, so before I started the diet exercise thing, get new shoes was the very first thing on my to do list!

I'm heavy and I could get lighter by running, but It's hard to run because I'm heavy.

^^ This, soooo…. this!!

I think I am going to start doing ankle type presses at the gym again, I think that really helped strengthen my ankle before and then do the running thing once or twice a week to get some stamina up. I actually feel it in my whole body, I am a bit achy from it. I could do the elliptical for hours and not feel a thing.

That's good that you have good shoes, but too bad it wasn't that easy of a fix. Hopefully the presses will help.

5 days in a row running with 2 below freezing runs and 1 5K was too much. I was dragging butt this evening. Tomorrow will be a break from running. Probably just stretching and bodyweight stuff for at least tomorrow.

Easing into it is the way to go (even without ankle pain). I'm excited to have another person here running!

Icy you should go for a run. One of us! One of us! :reddevil:

LOL! Well in -10 with snow/ice on the ground not likely going to be running any time soon. And really the walking isn't even outside, it's me pacing in the office or at home while watching TV shows (trying to be productive on 2 levels - clear out PVR AND Workout :) )

My knee has been acting up though - my good one of course :p REALLY need to get in some workouts at work to strengthen some muscles and get some actual cardio in. Been stuck at 131.5 for 5 days, ARGH! I just hope they get me healthy food Mon-Wed next week while I'm away. And that I try to do something in the hotel. It's an Executive suite that I'm hoping is solely mine because while I don't need all the space I don't really wanna share. But that means I SHOULD have room to do some stuff - just not sure if anything high impact would be smart. Still need to get a new battery for my old laptop and hope that fixes my issue - and hope I have free WiFi at the hotel too. That way I can get some WoW play time in and also follow some workouts while I'm away.

I've been slacking this week, but I'm determined to get in a workout today AND tomorrow. That way I at least get in my three workouts for the fourth week. MUST. DO. IT. :D

Caught up my chart. Still batting 1000. Did my 2nd 5K today and shaved some time off. I sawed up firewood with a handsaw on the evening of my wife's surgery. She was asleep in the house and I had my phone with me and needed to work off some anxiety. She is healing well.

My treadmill won't turn on! It's only a month old, damn it! I was actually really excited to get in an hour today when I got home.

Normally I'd throw something, cry, and give up, but I refuse. My boyfriend is going to handle the situation (may have to return it). Meanwhile, I'm going to start walking to work instead of just walking home (an extra 20 min) as well as adding in using some dumbbells and resistance band training at home.

At least the bulk of my weight loss is due to my calorie consumption. Still, it is NOT cool to have a $1200.00 treadmill stop working.

Boo, that's a bummer! Hopefully they get you up and running soon. Way to stick with it in the meantime.

With tonight's 5K I've ran about 23.7 miles (38.1) kilometers in the last 2 weeks. That likely exceeds the total miles ran in all of my adult life outside of the last 2 weeks. I'll try not to pull a muscle patting myself on the back too hard. ;)

What exactly is a 5K? I see people mention it, and now I wanna do it lol. I still hate running, but I'd like to get over that hurdle some day.

My plans didn't go through so I didn't walk today (day off). I ended up doing some dumbbell exercises and resistance band exercises from youtube for 35 min and then I did some Just Dance for 20 min. I'm going to wait til the kids are asleep and the bf goes out for an errand and try to do some youtube taebo as well (thanks for the links, Mandy!).

Treadmill may be broken, but like hell am I going to let that be my excuse to be lazy.

What exactly is a 5K?
Just means 5 Kilometers. It's a common distance for charity races so when most people say they are "doing a 5K" they mean a competitive 5 kilometer run. They are usually a loop on roads. I use the term for my solo runs as well since they are on the road and the same distance. In theory a competitive 5K would be a bit faster as I'd be racing with others instead of running down my road.
