I weigh 360lbs

Im 23 years old 5-8 360 lbs. What is the best way to lose it? I build muscle really fast when I lift weights (used to bench 405 in Sigh School) but when I try cardio i get dead tired after 5 minutes. Can I lose my body fat from lifting weights?or is cardio the only way to go

First of all you need to determine your calorie needs. There are seveal calculators out there is you do a search for BMR calculator, you can find one. Once you have determined how many calories your body burns daily, reduce this amount by 20-25%. You need a calorie deficit to reduce your weight. Spread these calories out over 5-6 meals a day, roughly 3 hours apart. Stick with lean proteins, whole grains, lots of fruits and veggies and good fats.

Definately incorporate a weight program into your activities. I recommend to start out with a full body workout 3 days a week. Concentrate on your compount lifts (Bench, Deadlifts, Squats, Shoulder Press, etc.) and maybe finish up with a 2 isolation movements (curls, leg extensions and curls, tricep presses).

As far as cardio, it is a good idea to keep cardio as part of your training, however start out slow. Maybe perform a brisk walk 3-4 nights a weeks until you shed a little weight and get your stamina up. Any activity is better than none at all.

I wish you all the luck in your goal to lose weight. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site and are more than happy to offer some great information. I recommend using the search engine on the site and read around the forums to get more detailed information.

I would also recommend consulting your physician before starting any exercise program. Good Luck!

thanks for the response,my caloric needs is 4815 calories.I really dont eat much tho but i was drinking beer alot up until last week when I just quit. Before I started drinking about a year ago I was 280lbs.Ive always been big tho.

Is that your calorie needs to reduce your weight or maintain? As far as the beer, you will definately have to give that up...LOL Maybe once you get going, use it as a goal. If you achieve a particular short term goal, reward yourself with a couple of beers with your cheat meal or something.

its the caloric need to maintain.I guessing to reduce would be around 3500-3800 but I was told if dropping to much will kill my metablism

You have only been eating 1000 calories? if so, that is WAY to low! Your metabolism will go into starvation mode and shut down. I highly recommend not doing that.

Hey, trust Falco on this. This man has been an inspiration to a lot of us on here because of his ability to set and reach his goals. There are 4 things you need in order to get into shape.
1. A SAFE caloric defecit
2. Weight Training
3. Cardio
4. DETERMINATION - the rest mean nothing without the will to drive through tough times (which EVERYONE goes through when training).

Remember Ghost, healthy is a life style...not a diet. Diets don't work. If diets worked then what's her face wouldn't STILL be doing those damn Jenny Craig commercials.

Do you mean maintenance calories or BMR calories? These are not the same.

Its gonna take a whole lifestyle change. Either you wanna lose weight or continue on this path to nowhere.

thanks. So should I commit more to Weght training in the beginning?Even tho I weigh 365 most people say that I weigh under 300lbs but I ws guessing I have alot of muscle.I like weight training but the only cardio I am comfortable with is playing basketball but since I have gout it is hard to play for extended time.

ghost...cardio is cardio...the more you do it, the better condition you will be in and the longer you will be able to play consistantly. We are all weaker at first. Dedication gives you strength

DEDICATION DEDICATION DEDICATION

Set small goals for yourself. Get through one and then another until you hit one of your "milestones". Each time you hit a goal, treat yourself. Also, find someone to keep you motivated. Find a workout partner and find a person that you can talk to when you think you are going to cave in on your plans. Talk to the clerks at the shop where you get your liquor, and tell them not to sell it to you anymore.

You mentioned that you have gout, well that is caused by a build up of uric acid crystals in your joints. This can be greatly reduce and kept in control by your diet. Avoiding ALCOHOL, high-purine foods, such as meat, fish, dry beans (also lentils and peas), mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, and cauliflower will help in getting rid of it and eating more fresh fruits, most veggies and drinking more water. Vitamin B and C can also help. So once you make the decision to get your diet in check, the gout will subside and cardio can begin comfortably.

You have the knowledge from people on this site to accomplish your goals, you just need to decide if you are ready to COMMIT yourself to changing you life. We cannot do that for you. As Tony said, it taked a lot of sacrifice and dedication to get going and keep going.

I wish you all the luck and keep us informed.

So I quit drinking completly and I am incouraged to eat right but Im running low options.Im also finding hard to meet my caloric needs because I lose my appetite. For example I got off of work the other night at 11pm ate 1 pack of Ramen noodle soup I got to sleep at 2 am wake up at 9 am I have no appetite so I drink a couple glasses of Ice water,I go to work at 3 pm I buy a footlong Subway Sandwich(wheat/turkey/lettuce) and spit it between lunch and dinner and then Im full for the night. And tonight I kinda feel the same way.
