I Suck At Chinups!!!

the best way to get better is to do more...if you have a bar at home try doing mutiple sets of 1 - 2 during the day 5 - 6 times a day...don't go to failure just get the volume in...can also try some negetive reps after positives than an isometric hold at thtop for as long as you can, letting arms straighten out until straight

yeaaaa... i like the hold; i have that in my normal routine

but if i work them 5-6 times a week that is over training... i dont want to be sore or even minimally fatigued going into a workout.

if you want to prioritise it than cut back all else a little and do that...i'm about to do this with Inverted Rows in a few weeks hopefully to get push / pull strength up a little...these shouldn't make you fatigued thiough but you cut back vol every now and then when you think you need it...now that i think about it your best bet is to probably do 1 set with palms facing wide grip, 1 set with palms facing away medium grip, 1 set palms facing you medium grip and 1 set close grip with paloms facing you...do each set 1 rep short of faiklure except fior the last one...this way your working from weakest grip to strongest...4 total sets...if you still feel you have more than out your bodyweight on a pulldown machine and go to failure on them with the close grip

good idea. instead of doing 2 sets until failure i will do 3 or 4 sets of minus one of my max...thanks.

ps: what are inverted rows??? i might want to add them to my routine

fat man pull ups...lying pull ups r otha names there gone by...chuck it in google and you'll find it...too hard to explain

Do it mon, wed, fri. Give yourself time to recover.

Yeah keep at it, i started off only being able to hold myself up and can do 8 now. Not bad for a calorie deficit chick;)

OMG - Swans, what are you trying to do to this guy. Learn waht your talking about before giving advice.

Proteinboy - dont do it 5-6times a day or your muscle will not heal. Stick with your 4 reps, the only way you can get better is to get stronger, so do 25-30 reps, over as many sets as neccesary, even if you end up doing 1-2at a time. push thru the pain barier, its easy to stop and giv up with chinups, but you gotta learn to skweez!!! learn to control your lats.

dont train them again untill they stop hurtting. if they hurts then they have not healed and you'll only damage yourself.

remember to chage from wide grip and close grip.
Wide grip with hands forward is hardest so get it out the way 1st.
close grip with hands facing you is easyer so do it last.

train your lats just like any other muscle, The only "trick" to get big lats is knowing that you can only get them big with hard work.

Kent, I think Swans is referring to this method...

It's pretty contrary to what we're taught but it seems to work well for a lot of people. Pavel calls it "Greasing the groove". It's also a method a lot of Oly lifters will use so that they can train multiple times a day on the same movement.

Thats interesting, but i dont think its sutable for an begginer. That only my opinion. I would worry that the noobie would not warm up or cool down properly, Its probable that he would get in to the habbit of just jumping up and pulling muscles 5-6times a day.

thanks for the clarification, kent. I like the changing the grip idea and trying to do 25 reps with however many sets it takes...

thanks i will definently blast my lats next time i hit my chinup bar : )

just do what i do start with 3 set of 4 chin ups and do it every other day so 1 day in between to rest and after 3 sessions you'll find that your able to add one more so than 3 set of 4 chin ups, after yourable to do 10 rep of 3 set, u can do more rep or you can move your arm farther now the harder kind of chin up don't no wat it's called,it's like a lat pull but on a chin up bar and just owrk your way, lol i can do 3 et of 10 rep and i was only able to do 3 rep in the beginning worse than u =)
