Nutrition my friend, should be your primary focus if you are trying to lose fat. Yes, the exercise is important to. I would try to do some form of cardio training as many days as possible each week. Depending on your body's response, you will have to train aerobically for 30-60 minutes each session. I would also suggest adding some weight training. Do some searching in here for proper beginner programs. However, it is very important to train weight weights when trying to lose fat.

But all this is nothing, again, with out proper nutrition. So what are you eating like?

do you do weight training? its also an importaint part in loosing fat. also, high intensity works ALOT better than long low intensity cradio. Look up HIIT
High intensity interval training ;)

A few HIIT exercises as well as low intensity exercises are listed in the above link. HIIT are definitely great workouts but don't do them too much. They're a bit strenuous on your body/joints.

strength training worked for me

I think strength training is the key, and helped me to increase my metabolism much more than cardio alone. Also, by strength training I was able to change the shape of my body, so that even though I wasn't losing more weight I was still losing inches. Check out this website - I am not kidding that this piece of equipment will help you to tone and increase strength. I was looking for something that was simple and easy, and I didn't want to buy tons of free weights and equipment. I usually do modified chin ups, push ups, and dips (but there are many more exercises you can do with them) and it has helped me to get leaner. If you have a minute check it out, it is worth a look!
