I need to buy a used car

So I really need to buy another car. Right now I'm driving a '92 Saturn SL1 that has a fair amount of miles on it. I'm going to keep this car for backup and buy another one. I'm not really too picky about cars but at this point I would like to have one that has air conditioning that works and a 4 cylinder (want good gas mileage, don't care about power). I know, pretty lofty goals for a car. I was thinking of a honda? I really don't know crap about cars so does anyone recommend a make or model or a specific year? I'm looking to spend $1500-4000 this time.

I'm looking on cars.com and I'm not sure what to search for. Any pointers would be great!

I dont know what you have over there but I bought a toyota corrolla and I have not had a problem yet, its economical on gas reliable and confortable.

I've had three Toyotas, and loved them all.

My first car was a 1992 Corolla (drove the hell out of that thing), then a 1993 Camry. Now I have an 2005 4-Runner Sport and love it too.

Never had any major probs with any of them (knock on wood). The Corolla and Camry were wonderful cars to have been used. I had some a/c issues on them, but nothing big, and the rest was just maintenance stuff.

I highly recommend Toyota. It's expensive to pay for real Toyota parts if something breaks, but things hardly ever do.

You can't go wrong with the old VW Golf or Polo's. They rarely break down, they have retro appeal and spare parts are cheap.

Thanks deschain. I think I'll look up those cars on cars.com and see if there are any around me for a fair price. I'll have a buy a bluebook to find out the value of these cars though.

Or you can go on Kelly Blue Book instead of wasting money on a Blue Book.

Checkout craigslist.com.

Actually - here is a link to the vehicles in IL....

Im not sure what area you are near but if u click on one of those cities, then click on cars and trucks, you will find some decent priced vehicles.

Never buy a car online. My bros friend gave me a whole talking to about not buying one online tonight (I'm looking for a 3-4k car also =]) and he made alot of good points.
