I need specific help

Hey guys, I'm 6'1/2" tall and I weigh 167 (this was about a month ago, our physed teacher weighed us). Oh, and I'm 17 years old. I know that isn't a very bad weight for my height, but I do have a "ponch" that I have gotten very tired of. I used to be in shape when I played sports but in the last few years I have let myself go.

Recently I have been cutting back on what I eat, because I usually eat alot each day (although I have been getting taller for some time now). I have been trying to run/jog for 30 minutes per day, and I also use our Bowflex (not to get real strong or anything, just to lose this fat and get in shape) for about 20-30 minutes. My first question is, will using the Bowflex (doing their 10 basic exercises) burn calories? I'm new to this stuff, but I never see things like crunches or leg press recommended for burning calories.

My second question (actually, just want some advice) is how should I make my diet? I have read all about how I should put one together, but I really am not good at knowing what I should and shouldn't eat, and my parents probably would just tell me to exercise if I asked for healthy food. Can someone model a diet for me? I really want to lose this weight and get back to being healthy, it's starting to annoy me.

Thanks alot guys, I really appreciate it.

By the way, if it helps any, I want to get down to 155 and stay there. But I might change my mind, I need to see that first.

you probably don't need to restrict calories...you need better food choices, and proper exercise.
muscle burns calories...fat does not. having too little lean mass makes it easier to have a bit of belly fat even when you aren't "fat".

check my list of links in my sig for dietary info, including LV's grocery list of 'approved foods'. They aren't hard to find, and are plenty cheap.

Thanks alot - I will definitely check them out. I want to get my body to a point where everything is usable - the sort of philosophy Bruce Lee had. I'm not going to go mad with it, but I am not interested in having big muscles or gaining weight if it isn't needed.
