I don't know where to start

That´s the loss of muscle mass I´m afraid; all the more reason to build it back up, like you´ve started to do!

Polly, you & I might have to get stuck into some weight training! [emoji15] Walking's good [emoji106]

Yep. I'm really enjoying walking and can feel my leg muscles firming up. Shame we are on different hemispheres Cate. We could try power walking together... perhaps not just yet in my case though:eek:

Woke up this morning with a sore throat and temperature. Feel lousy, so back to bed with plenty of fluids, and my husband doing his Flo Nightingale routine

Hello everyone I'm back in the land of the living, but still a bit wobbly. Flu is no fun at anytime, but you feel a bit cheated when you get it in the summer don't you?

I read some interesting research results this morning. To me it was simple commonsense, but still reassuring to see it proved. Long term research has been carried out on several diets, from 'quick fix' to slow but sure healthy eating. The low carb ones were found to be difficult to maintain and after the first few weeks of rapid weight loss, the subsequent loss loss was no different to any other diet.
The easiest to maintain was low fat, if done in tandem with a healthy life style and exercise. Which is basically what I am doing.
Talking of which, I really missed getting out and about and also my exercise bike. I'll soon be back to normal
The body needs fat, protein and carbohydrate to run efficiently but where most of us go wrong, is that we have too much of one or the other and don't do enough exercise isn't it?

Glad to hear that you're a fair bit better Polly. I agree- we need a balance. I struggle to eat enough protein, but am trying to increase it. Hope you're feling 100% soon, xo Cate

Yay, Polly is back with us! Glad you´re getting better and have found new motivation to keep up the great work :grouphug:

It's nice to be back Maria. How are you?

The best advice I've been given is to ignore the scales. As Quercus said, scales are fickle. The dietician at our surgery said that weight loss is just a side effect of a healthy life style and that if I keep on eating sensibly and increasing the exercise I will continue to lose. A neighbour of mine who is a very bluntly spoken Yorkshire lady said 'Do what I do Polly, go by your knickers. If they feel slack, you're losing weight' :smilielol5:

View attachment 23060 I've also found a new way to weigh, on the days I'm going to get on the scales

I love the knickers theory, lol! I have a few that are just too tight, the days I can comfortable wear them I feel like I"m walking on air. And scales are fickle! Measure some key spots and track them, its so much more motivating. Especially when you see problem spots going down the tape instead of up. I have a lumpy belly and when I have an off day I measure that, usually puts a smile on my face.

I got on the exercise bike yesterday, not too long because my energy batteries are still a bit low, but I didn't to lose the improvement in my leg muscles

Good that you got on the bike Polly. My batteries are a bit low today, so have done very little. Maybe someone can spare us an energy charge!

Sending some energy across the globe! I have plenty of it today, so I´m happy to share. Good job getting back on that bike Polly!

man I wish energy worked that way, then we could order it on Amazon and download it straight to our veins. Someone techy should get on that.

Red Bull=Poison :iagree: Some of that energy came my way today-off to golf. zzzt- sent some over! xoC

I am starting to feel the benefit of moving more. My knees and ankles feel different somehow, and the pain is much less. I'm going to have a look at the thread for exercising and dieting with health problems later on today.

Busy morning for us. One of the checkout girls at ASDA (supermarket) is having her head shaved this morning in aid of a cancer research charity. She's a pretty little natural blonde and as the time has got nearer, she's been getting very nervous. If I don't self scan my groceries I tend to use her till if the queue isn't too long, because she is such a nice girl. So, we are going along this morning to add our support.

Re red bull: Not a fan girls, or of iron bru. Zero coke is my downfall I'm afraid. I have a friend who makes ice cream floats using coke. I only tried it once and was sick as chip after it:ack2:

Ps. I think I must be getting a bit senile, I've been after a wasp in the bedroom to shoo it through the window before it gets downstairs. I've just realised it is the man across the cul de sac strimming his front garden. Ahem... moving on

hahaha! @ the wasp! I dont understand the head shaving thing in support of cancer...is she taking up donations and if she reaches a certain amount she shaves it?
