Re: Soda.. I have never been able to handle the "diet ones.." I struggle with the real thing.. *sigh*

I am so much better now and most often have 1 a day... I want them OUT OF MY LIFE though!

:iagree: Chef... I just know my weight loss will be better and my health will be better once I can kick the horrible habit!
Did you have headaches at first when you stopped?

Umm, I almost always have headaches (I'm just used to them so I don't make a big deal out of it) so it's hard to tell whether or not any of them were caused by cutting pop from my diet. I wish I could be more helpful, but I've always had headaches and it's just hard to pinpoint the cause, especially when I quit drinking pop regularly.

However, this might be helpful.

I've suffered from migraines all my life but the one realization I've recently had in regards to my migraines/headaches CAN be directly related to pop. I notice that when I cut out carbs from my diet (not completely, just in limited amounts) and I go for a week or two without eating or drinking carbs and then have a cheat night, I almost ALWAYS get a migraine, if not a bad headache. I explained this to my doctor last year (when I first noticed it) and he explained it to me this way (to paraphrase)...

"That's normal. Once you change your diet your body goes through changes. If you routinely consume carbohydrates and then stop, you will notice a difference after a few days. Your body will feel better because you're not being weighed down by all the excess carbohydrates. You feel relief because your body rids itself of unnecessary water weight so pressure feels more normal throughout your body, including your organs, joints, etc. Now, if you haven't consumed carbohydrates in a while and you have a day where you eat a bunch of pizza, down a bucket of ice cream and drink a bunch of alcohol, your body will feel worse because it is no longer used to handling that diet. And, often times, it results in a headache because your blood pressure goes up and your body swells which readjusts all of the pressure in your entire body.

Once your body adjusts to its new diet, it will feel more regulated. But, every time you change that diet, your body will have to go through adjustments - some bad, some good - which may or may not make you feel different."

Basically, if you cut pop out of your diet you might get headaches because your body is processing your change of diet. And, vice versa. If you start drinking pop again you might get headaches because your body is processing your change of diet.

I hope that helps o_O

Thanks for the info on the pop.I don't have too much coke zero, just at the weekend really. My secret vice is a small whiskey and coke at the end of the week.We all need at least one secret sin and since quitting smoking 10yrs ago, that is mine.

Don't worry Stacey. I find the sinners are the most interesting people. And as for smoking, neither Mark nor I have been well since we quit.

Hi Polly. Just look at that ticker of yours - 24 BMI....only 4 measly pounds away from 23.3.....AWESOME! Well done you! You have done so well & should be very proud of how far you have come. You have changed your health outcomes & gone from strength to strength, xoxo Cate

I just look ahead to the next pound Cate. But yesterday, I saw a lady, as fat as I used to be, hobbling along and obviously in pain and I looked back to how I used to be and, have to admit, I felt a bit smug:blush5: I still have a way to go but feeling as I do, its clear water all the way I hope.
Last evening we were planning what to do in the evenings on holiday if the hotel entertainment isn't up our street. We decided to get out for good walks around the harbour and sea front. I didn't think twice about creaky knees and getting a bit puffed.

Oh Dear!I bought a slow cooker in the new year sales, I've not had one before. I thought that with me being more mobile and us getting out and about far more than we used to, it would be good to put a meal in it before we went away for the day and so have a nice hot meal ready when we came back. So, I gave it a trial run yesterday and cooked some pulled pork in it. In, what I can only describe as a 'senior moment' I put an adapter into the same socket as the kettle. Halfway through cooking I switched the kettle on to make a cup of tea. Long story short... I blew every points plug in the house and the re-set button wouldn't stay down. Our electrician came straight round, checked everything, took the adapter off me, re-set and was just going when my husband got home from his wood carving class. All the electrician said to him was 'Polly had a moment, no charge mate' :smilielol5:

You live in such a great community Polly. That's how life should be. A moment hey? Cheeky possum!

I escorted his dad home to the UK from the south of Spain, many years ago when I worked on air ambulances. His dad was as sick as a chip all the way home and I certainly earned my money that day.Months afterwards I met him and his wife in ASDA and we still run into each other now and again. I remember this electrician coming to our old house to do a job for us and as he had an unusual second name I asked him if he was related, yes he was and passed on my best wishes to dad

Isn´t that what communities are about? Always knowing someone who knows someone and paying it forward to other people? (By telling your anecdotes and making them laugh, to name something completely at random...)

May be of help to someone out there
Having so far lost 56lbs (and still more to go) my finger rings are getting mighty slack and several times one has fallen off my finger. Some of my rings are antique ones inherited from my grandpa who was a jeweler, but even the inexpensive costume ones are old favourties, of little monetary value but precious to me. I don't want to get them made smaller just yet, but I don't want to have to stop wearing them either. Those plastic or metal clips you put inside the band, work, but are a devil for catching on and snagging your clothes.
So I looked on my 'old friend' Youtube and got a really good tip. Here it is: Get some double sided tape snip a bit off and stick it inside your ring. Don't peel back the other side, put the ring on and it fits like a glove.I used quite a thick one from my husbands tool kit. It's difficult to explain I know, but if you search on the tube it will come up. Sorry I'm not smart enough to post a link.... However, I've had a go and think I've done it
I love Youtube, I've learned new crochet stitches, sewing tips etc and loads of make up tips

Thanks Stacey.I'm at that between stage where it isn't worth having them resized just yet. I'm sorry I put the wrong video up.
