I am 15 years old and I weight 165 pounds. I am also 5 foot 4 tall. I realize I am over weight. My BMI is 28, which is one point over from an average of 27. I am trying to work every day to lose weight. I am eating less and trying to exercise more. I walk every day for 30 minutes. I am not sure if this is enough time a day or not to work out, but this is what I have been doing. I try to eat healthier. I do not have a lot of money to spend, so lately I have just been eating a salad or fruit, or spaghetti, but not a lot of it. The main problem I have is not having enough motivation. I am very motived for about the first week, but after that I just start to quickly lose interest. What would really help me is to hear other people's success stories. This is the main reason why I joined this sight, was to hear other people's stories, and maybe get some simple healthy recipe ideas and new ways of exercise that worked for people. I would really appreciate your stories and tips to help me out. :)

nevermind the 165 pounds

never mind about the 165 pounds. I just weighed myself and I am now 159 :D but I am still looking for motivation, tips, and help.

I grew up overweight and I know how hard it is. When I was 11 I weighed as much as you do at 15. It was not a fun life. For years I tried to lose weight, but because I was so young and the fact that my parents never supported me, I gave up. I tried again at the age of 13. I exercised for 15 minutes a day and went in the pool and did about 30 or so laps. I was down to my lowest at 155. But again, I did not have any support and at the age of 15-16 I was up to 215 pounds!! I was short too, 5'2" at the time.

Finally, at age 17, I decided I was sick of being so overweight. I started trying really hard. What really helped me was my Wii Fit. I was able to track my weight every day and eat accordingly. All I did was do a little research and decided to cut my calories back to 1200. (This was a big mistake, I am paying for it now. I wouldn't go any lower than 1500.) I rarely exercised, just did 10-20 minutes of Wii games in the morning before work.

Even though the fridge was full of junk, I decided to take the healthiest thing I could find, and I would refuse to eat any high calorie foods. I just wouldn't. Eventually, my mother saw how much I wanted this and started getting me more healthy foods.

It's been about a year and a half and I am now down to 127-130 at 5'3". My goal is 120, but if I do not reach that goal, that is alright, because now I am healthy and enjoying my body.

Just keep trying. Be persistant. Do not give up like I did. It WILL pay off... Try to get as much support from your family as you can. That is what helped me the most.

Good luck!

parents...

my parents do support me i think, but they haven't helped a lot, when it comes to buying the healthy foods they aren't as enthusiastic. My dad has been buying granola bars, which is healthier than the normal stuff, but he also still buys the fatty foods. Like today he bought two huge bags of pizza rolls.
