Hi All,

This is my first time on this forum, in fact any forum. so please shout if I am doing things wrong.

I am 32 years old and have been very overweight for some time. I am currently 224 pounds, 5ft 3in.

I was always a little overweight, and then piled on the pounds when I was pregnant with my daughter. she is now 11years old. When I split with her father soon after her birth I lost all the weight and felt fantastic but the weight crept up and since then I have been up and down but never got to the weight I desire. Around 140 pounds.

I have recently split from my partner of 2 years and would like to reach my target weight this time. I feel very positive (been here before though) at the moment, I started my weight loss program last week and have exercised every morning for 1 hour and been careful with my food intake.

I am posting on here as I believe this may be the extra support I require!.

Anyway not sure what else to say but I weighed myself this morning and looks like I have lost 7lbs this first week, I know this will be water retention as well but I am proud and focused.

Any hints and tips would be well recieved and just a chat about your success or hick ups would help me I am sure.

Look forward to your responces.

Hi, welcome!

I've pretty new here too. I suggest you browse through the forum here, and check out some of the stickified threads, such as Steve's Starvation, Calories, and Adaptations and TomO's link list of Words of Wisdom.

I know, pretty overwhelming. but there are just heaps of information that will help you a LOT, not just to loose weight but to stay that way! Knowledge is king.

There is one other piece of advice someone on here said.. I'm sorry I don't remember who said it, and I can't seem to find it again! But they said "it's all about me". Which initially sounds selfish, but it's so true, and if I remember correctly, what they were getting at is to do it for yourself, even when people are discouraging. Insist on going to the healthy restaurant when going out to dinner with friends- don't let people ridicule you for bringing your own healthy snack instead of getting popcorn at the cinema, etc.

I've had situations where I was eating out, and someone said "You should try this!" but it sounded unhealthy, and I had it anyway, and then felt like crap afterwards. I should've said no thanks i'm having the salad, or whatever I liked on the menu. anyway, i'm on a rant.. but you know what I mean I hope :)

good luck! And i'll be watching, so now you can't back out! HA!

Hi again,

Welli have spent the last 20 mins looking for my diary, I really do have no idea how to use this site. Is there a hints and tips section!!

I want to write responces and add to my diary. How??

One good thing is that trying to work this out it keeps my mind of food!

Today I got up and exercised for 1 hour before work so feel really good and have eaten really well. Losing the 8lb was a good motivational tool in its self but I also feel healthy (gave up smoking a week ago today).

I was thinking last night, I spend hours keeping my home tidy (bit of a cleaning freak) and have my hair done evrey 6 weeks, clean my car, work hard, then realised the only thing i havent looked after is my body which is mad since none of the other things matter if I dont look after myself.

Also I have an 11 year old daughter who is stunning and I dont want her to pick up on my negative attitude to my body (she says she loves me as I am Bless!) yet I know she would love me more if I went swimming, danced the night away at family get togethers, and was just more active.

So even more reasons to keep at this. I am so sure this will be the last time I start again! it has to be cos I want nothing more than to feel healthy and content. I know there will be other problems but to no longer blame them on my weight or make exscues would be brill.

Anyway will keep on trying with this website, think I will be slim by the time I get the hang of it (wishful thinking maybe).

Thanks for reading and I look forward to all your succes stories and will be here to help you through your blips! (well i will if I can learn how to reply!!)

Thanks for reading

oh, if you go to User CP and click on subscribed threads, your own thread is in there too.

how do you mean responses? You're kinda posting a response right there.. do you mean quoting something? hm?

hey that's great :) you probably wont keep loosing weight that fast, so don't get demotivated!

congrats on giving up smoking! it's really tough I know as my housemates have tried quitting. After four weeks of cold turkey, I mean not even a single cigarette, the nicotine should have left your bloodstream and that means no more cravings- so just hang in there! I'm impressed by anyone who tries to overcome such a strong addiction AND weight at the same time.

Everything at once!

Hitting the diet/exercise regimen AND quitting smoking at the same time? As they say in Peru, "Blimey."

Good for you! Sounds like you've made some serious decisions. Stick with it; we're all pulling for you.

Hi Taz,

Another newbie here too. Weight loss forums are awesome and provide a lot of support, especially when you feel like you're going it alone. Congrats on 7 pounds, and yes you are probably right initially the first week you will lose mostly water, but don't let that discourage you as the weeks go on. I wish you much success.

Welcome Taz,

We are almost identical in stats...I am 5'3 and my starting weight was 220. I have lost 25 pounds mostly in the last 13 weeks (4lbs that came and went away all the time) and I am 37...yuck..haha...so I am currently at 195lbs and I tell you that I can feel it..emotionally and physically! It has made me want more!!

Well welcome again hopefully we can support each other on this crazy journey :) :)
