Hungry at night.

Hi guys.

So what are the basics about eating at night? Will this cause you to gain weight or will it make a difference? I mean if you ate a bowl of something high in fiber (e.g oats, bran or something like that) would your body end up turning the unused carbs to fat?

So the question really is - will eating at night cause you to gain fat? Or is this just a myth? Or does it depend on what you are consuming?

Do not eat after midnight! Avoid bright sunlight. And stay clear of water.

Seriously, though, your question about eating at night does not have one "right" answer. If you are eating at or under your maintenance level, your body will burn those calories. Period. If you have a calorie surplus, your body will store them. No matter what time of day you eat.

However, the time of day - and relation to your activity level - does affect the fuel source your body chooses for energy & what it does with any surplus. That is why the traditional recommendation is to eat carbs early in the AM or pre/post workout, rather than late at night.
