how to tone up after dieting

Hi everyone

im in the process of losing lots of weight. Ive already lost 5 stone ( 70lbs) this year and am aiming for 6-7 stone by Christmas. but i need your advice please.

my tummy is rather flabby. i know by losing another 2 stone it will get smaller, but i think i need to do excercises concentrating on my lower tummy. to make it flatter. whats the best i can do?

also. the tops of my inner thighs have loose flabby bits. whats the best excercise to get rid of these areas?

thanks

Cardio. Crunching and working your abdominals directly won't burn a significant amount of fat. It'll strengthen and improve the muscle, but it won't remove the fat covering it. Cardio burns fat. Bike, treadmill, old-fashioned jog, swim... if nothing else a good... great... deal of walking.

thanks
Im not a Gym bunnie, but I do enjoy swimming and have got a mountain bike. I I think I will dust of the bike and find my swimming cossie this weekend and start my toning up regime.
the dieting is going really well and have dropped 4 dress sizes. so now i need a trim little body to wear nicer dresses and more revealing clothes. rather than tents like before ! lol

Firstly nice work and congrats on losing so much in such a short space of time. like sureal says, cardio is the way to go fo losing the last bits of fat. What I've found is if you mix longer slower paced cardio sessions (ie biking for say 1 hour at a steady pace) with much shorter high intensity sessions (ie 25 mins doing 40 secs slower 20 secs really fast, also known as HIIT training) you will get great results.

The HIIT method may be a little more difficult on a proper bike as it will be more difficult to find a suitable place in which to do it, ie not a good idea tearing down the high street on ya bike peddling for ya life whilst some old dear crosses your path with her shopper in tow. If you have a cycle path or an old railway nearby that's ideal.

I've used this alternating method and am approaching the 3 stone mark lost since April this year. I have also been doing alot of weight training so the loss would have most definatly been greater still if I had concentrated purely on the fat/weightloss. What you'll find is that your metabolism will speed up by doing this type of traning and you will probably lose more weight than what you would normally aswell.

Anyways good luck and I hope you hit your target by Christmas.

Just wanted to chime in that the more lean muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn. For every pound of muscle you have, it burns 35-50 calories per day. Pretty nice, huh?

I say go with a nice cardio plan AND strength training plan.
