How to stop my neck getting wider!

One of the main areas that I'm seeing a change in from working out is that my neck is getting wider! It's now starting to look like my neck is as wide as my head and I'm it never used to be that way!
Is this just something I will have to accept? Or are there certain exercises I could avoid so that my neck might stop getting thicker?

I seem to feel my neck being worked during shrugs, and variations of shrugs. But aren't these only supposed to be working my traps? When I do them I can feel my neck muscles working too.

wish i had that problem!

Very few exercises work just one muscle or muscle group....that's a good thing. You don't want big traps and a pencil neck do you?

yeah, shrugs will defianetly work your neck too but as theGOOCH just said you really don't want huge traps and a pencil neck. Now that would look weird. lol To be honest, I don't know of anything personally that will just isolate your traps. I use to do a close grip cable bar raise for traps. I didn't really feel my neck on those so that might be something to try. You could do these with dumbells and/or a barbell. Hope that helps.

When your neck is wider than your head, then you have a problem. That would make you look ridiculous (aka Pin Head).

Until that time, don't worry about it.
