how to lift?

i am 45 and would like to get into shape using weightlifting what would be the best kind of program # reps #sets streching running would be best?

There is not a set "best" for anything, it's figuring out what is best for you. Have a search around the forums, I'm sure you will find many threads answering your questions, like Adler said.
