this may seem like a dumb question....but how much schooling and what schooling does one need in order to become a personal trainer???? any info. would be greatly appreciated!:)

There are numerous certifcation orgainzations to try. I suggest WITS becasue it is formatted ina community college setting complete with 5 weeks of lectures and practicals. Another thing to try is start reading and educating yourself. If you step out in the field with no experiece whatsoever, you will be eaten alive. Especially by guys like me that have been at it for years....

Talk to people that have been working as trainers...I mean serious trainers, not all-around lazy guys that have no experience--just initials after there name. Ask them questions, get to know what it takes to become a trainer. What skills are needed? What personality traits are important? Do you know how to spot? Do you know how to perfromo basic exercises? Or do you jsut look good? these are teh things that you need to see if being a personal trainer is right for you.

You can check out my new e-book that examines this very topic. Before you spend hundreds of dollars on certificatios or programs--read this book!

Hi Lilian! It's NOT a dumb question. It's a question that gets asked a lot!
There are so many certifications out there (over 300), it's easy to get confused.
They important thing is to find a reputable one; one that potential clients and gym owners who have done their research, will respect.
Read everything you can get your hands on as well. None of the courses can possible teach you everything!
The one John mentioned above, WITS (World Instructor Training Schools) is a good, up-and-coming cert! I happen to be an instructor for them, but I would not teach for them if I didnt believe they were a legit certifying body.
Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions!
Wes
