how should I eat?

i'm starting running program soon but for a few weeks before I do (and during) I want to start eating a lot better and start consuming less calories. I see people talking about 5 or 6 meals a day. Is there any specific foods I should eat or is anyone else doing a similar thing and following a specific diet? Is there an exact diet I can follow to help me do this? Should I start eating lots of fruit?

Well are you trying to maintain your weight, lose weight, gain weight, just stay in shape? Its hard to tell but I would just stay eat healthy and idk give a lil more information lol

Well the fitness program is here not just for losing weight, many other things as well.

But yea the 5-6 meal a day is great for the metabolism booster, and if your going to be doing this much running you really should be fine. Since you are running like this you really should just find out how many calories you normally eat per day and take 500 away from that. Look at the nutrion stickies and you find great healthy foods. Figure the amount of calories you need and organize a plan. You know breakfast snack lunch snack dinner and if you want a snack after dinner is fine too as long as your in calorie deficit . Make sure you get the proper amount of protein and such,. Set it up and see after 2-3 weeks how your doing. Peace
 
1500cal a day is a bit low, unless you're female, under 5 feet tall, and very inactive.

as far as foods to eat...whole foods...avoid processed foods, boxed dinners, sugar, excessive starchy carbs, and bad fats.

It is not rocket science to eat healthy. I agree to break your meals up. I would suggest eating every 3 hours. BUT WHY???? I will tell you. It is all about metabolism. you need to feed your body to keep that metabolism high. By the time you start to feel hungry, you body is way ahead of you. It is sending a message to your brain telling it to slow down and conserve... Not good. Now when you eat your snacks, just have a small portion. Maybe an apple or some pretzels. NOT FROM THE BAG!!!!. Take a few out...put the bag away. NOW..... BRING ON THE WATER.... I could go into a whole conversation on that, but it is awesome for loosing weight.. So what else you ask. FIBER with every meal. IT sucks up the fat that is in your meal. Also get yourself a good liquid vitamin. Sometime your body is sending you signals that you are hungry, but in fact you just need to replenish it with vitamins or even liquid. Did I mention exercise. Believe it or not, you do not have to kill yourself. small things like walking the stairs at lunch or parking as far a way as you can will do wonders. Ok for the most important thing!!!!!!! If you are overweight.. there is a reason why. Fix you first. Ask yourself questions. You will be amazed what comes out of that complex brain of yours. If you can equate a TON of pain for being over weight and you can recall that pain every time you get weak.. You WILL succeed. GOOD LUCK.
