How much does the AVERAGE gym make?

I know it seems like a simple statistic to find, but I'm having trouble.

I found a stat from IHRSA that says their member facilities spend about $103,000/yr on new equipment, etc, which was about 4.4% of their revenue.

I'm trying to get a good estimate on how much the AVERAGE gym spends on new equipment each year, so I'm thinking if I can find how much the average gym makes and just apply the 4.4% to it that will suffice.

Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

I'm not really sure if there's such thing as an AVERAGE gym. Every facility is going to be different, but you can do some rough calculations to put you in the ballpark.

How many members does the gym have?
Multiply this by the monthly dues.
Add personal training revenue, to get this figure, talk to the training manager.
Add supplement revenues, if any. Again, talk to the training manager for some fairly accurate info.

This amount will be the approximate total income of the gym.

Subtract rent - this can be huge, and you may be able to contact the landlord.
Subtract utilities - again, usually a large figure. (especially if they have a pool)
Subtract Payroll - howm many employees does the gym have? What's the average salary? You can usually leave personal trainers outof the equation...
Subtract maintenence bills, you'll probably haveto estimate here..

That SHOULD leave you with a ROUGH estimate of profit.

That may not be very helpful, but like I said, every facility is different...
