How much can YOU bench?

Bouncing on your chest is not good, it never was and it never will be :)
I do it like dex 1 inch and then back up...
always done it this way

I see lots of stuff and discussion about shoulder injuries from benching... but very few about elbow injuries. I've injured my right elbow because I used an excessive ROM with DBs (I went with the DBs bellow my chest level).

Do anyone knows were I can find specific info about this kind of injuries? I'm injured for almost 2 months (stoped working out upper body 1 month ago) and don't know what to do :(

Thanks!!

I used to do 140. I don't know about now. I've gotta get back to the gym soon... An injury and lack of motivation afterwards has kept me out for more than 4 months.

Hummm, it is funny to see that no women answered this, lol!!! I guess we're not too big on the bench press, eh?

Oh well...;) I can bench 95 lbs 6 times(I think)....so if I extrapolate from a chart, my 1RM would be somewhere around 115? Never tested my 1RM though....if I try it, I'll keep you guys posted on the results :p

I think instead of measuring how much people lift in pounds or grams or whatever - we should use a percentage of body weight.

So you'd say 'My 8 rep max is 75%' or something.

I did a search for the world bench record after watching Unbreakable and I found a few sites that had it broken up into weight classes. It seems to make a lot of sense to me.

I agree with RobDude. A good thing to shoot for is to bench your body weight for 12 reps, or 1.5 times your body weight for 6 reps. Don't forget to do as many sets of chins and barbell rows as benches or you will eventually have big rotator cuff problems!

Ive been training for about three weeks now and i started of with 100lbs but now ive just gotten up to lifting 110lbs!

I work in kilos aswell though!

I don't consider myself a huge bencher but decent. I'm 5'11" and weigh 205 lb and I can put up 315 with good form. I can do 230-235 for 10 reps depending how I feel (about 2 second negative, explosive positive). I'm going to try and get my 1RM over 350 by Halloween though.

I've been working out on my Bowflex for the last 4 months, but I went back into the gym recently just to check my maxes on free weights. 1RM on bench is 265 (I'm 5' 9" and weigh 155). Before I had my Bowflex, my max was 225 (so I increased 40lbs in 4 months using Bowflex...not bad!)
