How many reps should i do?

How many reps should i do?
i have heard of:
4x10
4x6
3x8
are there anyothers?

As of now I want to build size for right now, so should I do 3x8 or 4x6, and the 4x10 is if you want to rip out right? If any of you can brighten me up on this topic that would be awesome, Thanks ahead of time!
 
Reps only affect one thing, what you're training for. Strength, size, or power. If I were you I would go 3x10, the sacred cow.
 
I have been doing 4x10 and I have just seen a major increase in rip in the muscle, but not strength. Right now I just want to build up size for the next 6 months then trim up later, so the 3x10 would be best for this?
 
'Ripping' as you put it, I'm assuming refers to the process of burning fat, hence making your muscles look more defined. This is achieved by burning more calories than taking in, not the number of reps you do.

Bulking, as you said you want, is done with a higher volume than normal (ie. more sets and reps than a strength training routine). Normally a 10x3, or 12,10,8 type scheme. But you need to focus on your diet, and what you eat, as that is key.

May I suggest you read 'Weight Training 101' on this forum, it contains most of the basics to help you understand.
 
If you want to train for size, you should keep your reps high, as in the 8-12 range and diet is everything! Can't stress it enough.. If you aren't eating what your body needs to increase in size, you are not going to grow.
 
personaly i dont use sets as such.
i pick a number of reps say 30 then reach that whatever way i can it could look like this.
100k 15,15
110k 10,10,10,
120k 8,8,8,6,
130k 6,6,6,6,6,
140k 5,5,5,5,5,5,
