How many hours a day do you work out? Is 2-3 hr too much

I have just started working out about 2 weeks ago I have lost about 3 lbs and have about 40 more.

I workout about 5 days a week but do 1-2 hours a day. I do a step class and body pump.

On Fri I did 2 hours of step. Once in the morning and once in the evening. I also did about 15 minutes of weights on the machines.

Normally I despise going to the gym and always made excuses. Of course I am paying for it now with me being overweight and hot happy.

Right now I am MOTIVATED to workout and REALLY enjoy it. Starting this week I thought about doing 2.5-3 hours total

Doing 2 hrs in the am (830-1030) STEP and BODY PUMP and then later in the afternoon (445) doing a 45 min STEP class.

Is this OVERDOING it? Someone told me I shouldn't over do it. But I WANT to work out.

TIA

Carrie

I workout about 75 minutes three to four times per week. You are overdoing it. Especially if you're not getting in any food or energy source during that stretch of workout.

I would personally only go to a class three times per week max, and hit the weights another three.

Now that i'm bulking, my workouts are about 50-75 minutes, and usually 3 times a week. I don't do any cardio (i know i should, but i don't *shrug*). Cutting is a bit different for me though. I spend less time in the gym each visit, (45-60 minutes) but usually do 4 workouts a week, plus about 3 sessions of cardio, (20-30 minutes).

Either way, it does seem like you're over doing it a bit. I can usually get in and out of the gym well under an hour and a half, even when i do weight training and cardio.

It seems like the only people that spend tons of time in the gym are the ones that walk around and socialize between each set.

Thanks! Yeah I will just stick to the norm. I won't go back for the extra class.

I am drinking my water, protein shakes, and eating ok

Unless it's cardio, I never go below an hour...and never over 2 hours. Alot of it is actually changing around weight plates for different exercises. Damn home gyms

Right now, I'm revving down from six weeks of intense fat burning workouts.

During the fat burn workouts, it's 2 hours from the time I walk in to the time I walk out.

Currently, it's about 45-1hr, depending on whether it's 3x12 or 5x5 day.

Alternating cardio and weight lifting every second day, a gym session takes an hour and the cardio is dependant on what I do ; run, jogg, HIIT..

My workouts are 40mins 5days a week. Not including warm up, cool down and any CV.
