how many days should I lift?

I currently do cardio 5 days a week. 30 min. of interval running/walking. 30 min. arc training. I lift legs on Mondays and arms on Wednesdays. I do not want to bulk the muscles as i am a petite woman. I want lean and defined muscles. Should I be lifting more often? How many days of recovery does the muscle group need? Thanks!

1. You are neglecting chest, back & shoulders
2. Lift light weights and high reps to tone and not bulk
3. Lift every other day at most

Good luck

Chrissy,

As a Beachbody coach I would recommend Turbo Jam/Turbo Fire from Chalene Johnson.
As a person who has a passion for helping people out – I would not lift more than three days a week. Doing as much cardio as you do you are going to stay lean and small. If you throw out all your cardio and just do weights, then that is when you will bulk up.
Another person posted you are leaving chest and back and shoulders out. Just try to mix it all in as you can. I can give you a routine, just email me or PM me if you want. We can get you going ;)

Thank you for the tips. I did leave out that I work in chest and back on my arm day. Really want to sculpt. Will continue my cardio and M & F light weights high reps for legs and Wed. arms/chest/back. Working on trimming my daily intake as well. This will help. No more finishing my children's meals :). Thanks again.

Lift every other day. Oh yeah, Women will not bulk up without steroids.

g8r8 is kind of right, sooo hard for a woman to drastically increase muscle mass. Whoever posted 'lift light weights to tone, not bulk' is talking a load of bulls**t.

Keep it simple, research on a simple 3 day full body lifting routine. This way you will train all your body, in a very effective way. You will not get big, lift as heavy as you can go for say.....3x10 reps. This will help keep your metabolism up and retain/gain muscle mass to shape your body.

Diet is most important though.
