How far should I aim to run?

Key is don't rush and don't overdo it in the beginning. Gradually increase your time and don't go for running more than 3,4 days in a week. Very nice advices given above, make sure to warm up your body before running. Cycling and swimming are other good exercises you can do off days. Your stamina will start to increase day by day. Increase your run to 5k initially and then if you want to go above, you can go for next step.

When I was training for my half-marathon, I never ran more than 4 times a week, and usually it was 3 times. I found that I didn't perform as well. That's not to say I sat around on the other days, but I mixed in some strength training and other cardio to keep my body from using just the same set of muscles over and over again. Good luck!
