How does one combine and balance cardio and strength training?

What is a good way to divide time up during a visit to the gym, or jsut during the day, and do a cardio workout and work with weights? I have been told to warm up before using weights with stretching, walking and some light jogging even, but what if you would like to be running 2 miles or more. How long do you weight after running to work with weights? Should you even do it on the same day? Or try to avoid that?
 
Try to do them on separate days if possible.

If it's not possible try to split it up between an AM and PM sessions, cardio in the morning and weights at night. If wanna do the opposite that's fine, if youre a morning person and your body wakes up right away somehow.

If that's not possible, put the cardio after the weights.
 
depends on your goals...if muscle is ur goal then do 2 interval training cardio sessions and 1 easy type run a week...if cardio is goal then maybe limit wts to 2 sessions a week and do multiple and varied cardio sessions a week...basically choose 1 and increase it while maintaining at worse the other
