Strech 2-3 times a day would be the best thing. If you take up something like gymnastics u'll get very flexable.
 
yoga is most definatly the best way to increase flexibility. there are other ways to strech, however yoga will improve health, digestion, consentration, relieve stress, strengthen muuscles, improve balence, burn fat and its a lot more fun than basic sports streches.

If you can, get a cheap yoga mat, and a DVD. Make sure you get a beginners dvd cos its harder than it looks.

The best thing would be to go to classes, even if you dont like classes I strongly advise it once or twice before you train on your own.

If your not in good shape, you may wanna consult your GP 1st.
 
Stretch often (at least once daily, every day) and hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds. I teach yoga as well and highly recommend it. You can head over to yogajournal.com and see some poses.

The bad thing about flexibility is if you stop stretching (even for a week) you can become very stiff again. So it is definitely a thing to do each day :)

Oh and stretch when your muscles are warmed up. It's safer.
 
Thank you for all the answers! Well, I don't have time for any classes because I am still in high school. However, I'll keep stretching and look up those yoga poses. :)
 
I hear ya about yoga not helping all that much. It depends on the style of yoga. Power yoga... Ashtanga yoga.. forget it. You want hatha yoga. True hatha yoga. Each pose is help for at least 30 seconds and typically for a minute. That's the secret to flexability.

Do it often. Don't stop. Hold for more than 30 seconds. Just ask dancers :)
 
oh, so when i do the cooldown and strech on fast forward, i'm cheating mhyself? i shudda known.....
