I was under impression that it was protein that helps build muscle and not calorie..

We eat protein for the EAAs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_amino_acids

Calories are the fuel the body burns, but too much and the body stores it as fat. Calories come from four sources: protein: 4cals/g, carbs: 4cals/g, fat: 9cals/g and alcohol: 7cals/g.

So, in a way, you are right. If you drop enough protein from your diet, to drop it below your maint, you'll lose fat and muscle as the body metabolizes it's own muscle to feed itself.

i figured lower the protein intake would be more ideal. Can you explain why a lower calorie intake would stunt the ability to grow muscle?

Again, calories are the fuel. You can put competition grade oil in the pan, trans fluid in the tran case and all that, but if you got no gas, you're going no where.

Wild.. im not saying she gnona be a body builder.. I should clarify, build muscle easilier than other women.

Anyways.. so a low protein low calorie diet is the way to go?
The suggested daily nitake on avg of 2000 calorie diet was 60g grams i belive. So as long as she stays under 60 and reduces her calorie intake by a couple of hundred.. she should be fine?

But what happens when you're working out and you tear muscles and u need the protein to repair but in this case we'll be stunting the amount of protein intake.. isnt that in a way harmful to the body in the long run?

possibily around 165 -170 lbs
