How do I get a flat belly?

I was wondering of anyone could give me any advice on how to get a nice flat belly for the summer?!

I'm not big, about 5ft4 and just under 8 stone so I don't want to lose weight, but I feel that I do have a bit of a pot belly at times which I would really like to be nice and flat!

Any suggestions for the best exercise etc? I'm not really interested in joining a gym as the pennies are a bit tight at the moment!

Oh, and just to push my luck, any advice on toning my thights would be good. I have a real complex about wearing a short skirt as my legs are too thin. Its the tops that I don't like as they have a hugh gap between them when I stand up straight, any tips for building the muscles in this area?

Flat stomach=lower body fat, no way around it. Most important is a proper diet. Do you exercise now at all?
 
if all you do is lose fat your legs will get skinnier with your belly. Thats not what you want. to thicken your thighs and flatten your belly I would recommend squats and lounges. I see the fitness models in miami everyday on my way to work doing lounges every morning. no othe way to get nice legs. DIet will never give you nice legs or a good booty. it will just make you stay in the same shape just a smaller version of it.

I would recommend 3 sets of squats followed by walking lounges as far as you can go. when you can't go any farther wait a minute and then lounge back to the starting position. THe leg muscles unlike other muscles actually heal quick. SO you can work them every day if you want. Have a protein shake after each work out and before bed.

No carbs after lunch will flatten your belly fast enough. I would actually recommend you don't exercise you belly if you want it to get smaller. If you do your ab muscles will grow and the layer of fat on top of them will just bulge out. when it gets flat you can then use crunches to give it that britney spears definition. Bt until then the crunches will make them look bigger. You will get a lot of advice to do sit ups and crunches to bring in your stomach but crunches don't burn fat. and that is your problem in the mid section.

is this true ?
 
half true

crunches etc dont burn fat and will never remove the fat layer that causes the 'pot' belly.

however, that doesnt mean dont do them. treat them like any other muscle, use weights and dont be doing endless reps as that will get you nothing but a bad back.

do similar amounts of back work as you do abs to improve your overall posture, and also try the tranverse abdominal excercises, they are brillant at bringing the stomach back inwards to flatten it.

aim for a strong stomach and back - follow the diet advice above and on the rest of the site and get a decent workout schedule. In my experience the best flat stomachs are on those people who aim to be fit overall, not just to improve one aspect of their body.

Well, IMO you should eat a protein and a complex carb at EACH meal. Where this theory of having no carbs after lunch came from, I don't know. Maybe it works. But I'll stick to the protein and carb at EACH meal plan. :)
 
Protein and carb at each meal is the way to go. Im also a vegetarian :D

Lots of us on these boards. Wow.

Anyway, I'd just focus on eating well and just because you are a vegetarian does not mean you cannot get protein. There are tons of ways for us to get it :) And "complete" proteins at that!
