Home Gym + Timing Between Reps Issue

After 2 years at the gym, I no longer have time or patients waiting until other finish up their reps on the benches / barbells / dumbless etc..

I decided to buy a professional bench, a long barbell, and 2 dumbells with those screws and screw on weight plates.

The only problem is: My trainer always told me to wait 1.5 minutes between reps, but to unscrew and rescrew 2 sides of the barbell / 4 sides of the dumbells takes about 3 - 5 minutes.

I am just wondering if waiting exactly 1.5 minutes is that significant ? or 4 - 5 minutes is ok..

P.S. i do feel good, and I feel my muscles sore, and I do get good workouts.

Thanks,
Peter

it takes that long to change the weights? 3 is no prob, 5 is a bit much in my book. it depends on goals. want max strenght, go with 2-3 min between sets

And by "reps" i suppose you mean "sets"

The amount of time used in a rest period should be based on your goals.

By professional do you mean Olympic? I have never locked in place any of my weight plates on my Olympic barbell. Mainly for the fact I lift alone and need an out if I get stuck. And, because of the many groves where the weights fit its actually pretty difficult to mistakenly have a weight fall off. It not only saves me time from having to unscrew it and all. It also, as I stated, helps a lot when working out alone.

4-5 minutes is quite excessive. I'm not sure what kind of "screw" system your bench uses. But, I would suggest you either A: don't use them at all. Or B: go get yourself some clamps to use in the screws place.

Yeah I really suggest getting yourself some slide on clamps. In general I don't like home gymers working without some sort of close system on the weights. Spending a few bucks on some clamps can save you a lot of time.

incase your not aware what we are talking about...

Uhh... Two questions that may not ahve been asked. Why would you need to change the weight between sets? unless you're doing 10 8 6 or something just keep the weight the same. I don't know if everyone will agree or not. I mean I sometimes add on a bit more weight at the end if I tihnk I can handle it too.

But I use olympic barbells and dumbbells. Do you have standard 1 inch diameter barbell? I'd recommend against it.
