Holiday party dress emergency

This time I will achieve my goal, I will lose weight, I will not gain all the weight back, and I will not starve myself!

My current weight is 167lbs (I'm 5'5"), and my ideal weight is 130lbs. So I have 37 pounds to lose (forever) by December 1st. Every year is the same drama.. will I fit in a nice dress for the holiday party? Should I just stop eating for a week, and even if I dont eat for a week will I lose a lot of weight until the party day? Not this year!

The thing is, I am not fat.. okay I am slightly overweight... but I used to be skinny so every time I encounter an old friend he or she gives me "the look" that makes me very uncomfortable. Isnt it ridiculous that people are judged by their weight? I know that it is not healthy, but I cannot gain 5pounds (okay I gained 25pounds in the last couple of years) that my own friends look at me with a disgusted face? Maybe I am just paranoid.. and maybe they are not really my friends... but I will still work on my weight issue.

My biggest obstacle is that I love food.. I eat when i am hungry, when I am not hungry, when I am bored, when I am sad, and when I am happy! In addition, I dont like to exercise, i am a full time student with a lot of free time, and I love to cook! ahhh... sometimes I feel like the universe is against me :)

I will try to write often so I dont "forget" my goal and to give me motivation.

Hi ddaniela! It's nice to have you here! I want to lose around the same weight you do:) and I'm a student too!

Welcome to the forum daniela! This is a great place to be if you are looking for support! And you WILL lose that weight-once and for all!!!

Should I just stop eating for a week, and even if I dont eat for a week will I lose a lot of weight until the party day?

I used to do that tooo!!! For me it was right before a big event, a wedding i was going to, a big bbq where i know everyone i know will be there, first day of classes...it was bad.

Then i discovered that it didnt make any sense because after the event i went back to my normal unhealthy routine (not to say that starving myself is healthy-but u get what i mean) and gained all the weight back...which made me feel as though i had let myself down for not being able achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Anyway i finally realized that the best way to lose weight was to not expect huge weight loss in a small amount of time. To try and be consistent with eating healthy and exercising...naturally the weight will go away. Then there is the challenge of maintaining the weight loss but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it!

Good luck on your journey girl! I will pop in and say hi :)

Thank you lindethiel and nightrunner for the support!
I guess my will power made me lose 2 pounds since my last post :) Because I did not exercise nor did I starve myself. It is probably water weight anyway... I've been trying to find a diet that fits my lazy lifestyle, but there is none that I haven't tried before. So for this first week I will try to drink more water, at least it is something ..

I guess it does work!

hmmm... I lost another pound! And... I'm not doing anything besides eating a lot of spicy food. So, I researched and found the following article:

Reality Check: Do spicy foods increase metabolism?

THE CLAIM

Spicy foods increase metabolism.

THE FACTS

Is it true, as has long been held, that spicy foods not only heat you up but also speed the metabolism?

Over the years, various studies have examined the claim and suggested that certain spices can increase metabolic rate by raising body temperature, though to what extent and for how long is unclear. Capsaicin, the compound that gives chile peppers their powerful kick, creates the largest bump in heat generation, which helps burn more calories immediately after a meal. Black pepper and ginger have similar effects.

Generally, studies have shown that on average a meal containing a spicy dish, such as a bowl of chili, can temporarily increase metabolism by about 8 percent over a person's normal rate, an amount considered fairly negligible. But besides a slight uptick in metabolism, spicy foods also may increase feelings of satiety.

One study by Canadian researchers this year looked at a group of adult men and found that those who were served hot sauce with appetizers before a meal went on to consume on average about 200 fewer calories at lunch and in later meals than their peers who did not have anything with capsaicin. The researchers suggested that capsaicin might work as an appetite suppressant. But take heed: Spicy foods also can worsen symptoms of ulcers and heartburn.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Research suggests that spicy foods can increase metabolism, though only to a minor extent.

one year wiser

Now that I am one year older.. I mean wiser, I should take this diet seriously!
I gained a few pounds but I already lost them ... and dont want to find them!
I've been walking 1 to 1 1/2 hours per day, I guess it is better than nothing. However, I need to focus on my calories... damn I love to eat! And carbs are so yummi! Today I had oatmeal for breakfast and I will try to drink more coffee since it is supposed to increase the metabolism. I will cook some carrots so I can snack on them every couple of hours too. Let's see.... :piggy:

Hey ddaniela!

I kind of have the same goal as you about eating healthy!! :p
As long as you know where the problem lies you can work on it!

ALL the best!! :)
