I can start by saying that I've lost 25 pounds since the beginning of December. I started out at 174 and I'm now 149. Which for me is a big accomplishment! I've drastically changed my eating habits. I used to just go to the grocery store and pick out the most unhealthy foods and I hardly had anything in my diet that would actually be considered healthy. The food that they served in our galley at work wasn't helping either. On mornings there would be eggs, fried sausage or bacon and some kind of potatoes. I would hardly ever eat any of the fruit they had out, but when I did I would only eat a small portion. The only thing I would have off the menu everyday that was healthy was orange juice. For lunch they would have a hot meal that consisted of a meat that was way over the correct portion size, some starch and vegetables, with of course, a desert. I would hardly touch the vegetables and always consume too much of whatever fattening desert they were offering that day. Supper was a different story, the cooks seemed to not care about the quality or taste of the food since most of the senior personnel on our base had gone home for the day, the average meal for supper was some kind of meat either deep fried or whipped up on their stove, which of course was also fried. When they did decide to bake something, it wasn't without some type of heavy sauce or gravy to enhance the flavor. I did have a salad everyday, but I could never go without slathering it in a pound of ranch dressing, which does nothing but adds fat and empty calories to any diet.
Now I know it's not right to blame those cooks at the galley for making anyone fat, and I'm not, you control your own actions and where and what you eat every day. This galley was a major contribution to my weight gain, and to my laziness. It also cost me about 150 dollars a month to eat 3 meals a day, 15 days out of the month. That's 150 dollars I could have spent on actual groceries!
Since I've changed my lifestyle, I've also noticed a big change in my mental and emotional health. I'm not as tired and I don't stress over things as much. I also have more confidence because I don't feel like I'm overweight, and I can do more physical things. I've received a lot of compliments from people I work with. People have stated that they were proud of me and some people have even come up to me with advice on how to lose weight. I always tell them that the secret is mostly in what you eat, but there is no secret really, If you put junk food in your mouth constantly every day, you're gonna feel like junk at the end of the day. All you have to do is eat right and drink plenty of water every day (about a gallon) than you will start to lose weight fast. You don't need a fad diet, you don't need to starve yourself which is a really unhealthy thing to do. You just need to make smart decisions about what you eat.
