Hello. I'm a 31 year old male. I'm 6ft and I weigh 291 lbs. My doctor says I need to lose weight. I probably have sleep apnea, still waiting on results. I have a 16 month old son and one on the way. I want to be alive for them!

I just joined a local gym and Im starting south beach diet. This morning I weighed myself after I woke up I was an even 291. I would like to get down to about 215, then go from there. It's 9pm now and about to get off work in an hour and going to hit the gym for the first time. I will try to just get to know the place and spend a little time on the threadmill. Wish me luck.

PS: Reading all the forums here leave me very confused. What do I need to do as far as excersize and diet? Any help, especially a workout plan, would be appreciated.

good luck with getting started :)

a good first step for your diet would be to sighn up for one of the many websites that make tracking your food easier and spend some time logging the food your currently eating to get an idea of your starting point. You should also gra a tape measure and get a few basic measurments as the scales are often not the best way to track progress.

Start of slow at the gym, don't try to do to much to soon, try for a mix of cardio and weights. depending on where you are the staff at your gym should be qualified to show you how to do most exercises with good form.

Didnt make it to the gym last night after work, was too tired. So I decided to go early this morning before the family woke up. It felt great! I did 30 minutes on the threadmill. Mostly at a slight jog on 4.0, occasionally I had to bring it down to about a 3.0. No weights this time.

waist, chest, hips, thigh, calf, bicep and Neck are the most common measurement locations.
