Here I am! Rock you like a Hurricane (hehe)

So, how is the marathon training coming along? How many miles are you up to each week? Are you following a specific running program or book? I think Alta wrote a book on how to train for and complete your first marathon. You can find the contents in her diary from post #6,504 to post #25,307. :rotflmao:

Alta, if you are reading this I meant that to be funny in a good way. You rock! :)

Speaking of "rock", I'm thinking of starting a new journal and titling it "Here I is! --Rock you like a Cyclone (haha)

What do you think Melissa? It worked for you! :D

Derrick: Rock you like a cyclone sounds like a great name for a journal to me!!! lol

So... let me just say thank God its the weekend!!!! we had a super snow storm yesterday into mid day today. We got 20" of snow here in PA! :) It was certainly nice to not be able to go anywhere most of the day... I was forced to actually relax!!! I def got my work out in later though when i spent a good 3 hours shoveling out our cars and our driveway! geeez louise!

anyways, i have taken the last 3 days off of being at the gym. Mainly due to busy schedule... and a lack of energy. Its been stressful at work lately. This is even more reason why i SHOULD be working out. But i took a small vacation from the gym. If it were nicer out... id be outside running again on my lunch breaks... buuuuut.... its not. and i cant find my knee brace... BOO.

Anyways, back to the gym tomorrow.

Here is my food today:
Breakfast:
Coffee
2 eggs w. a pinch of cheddar cheese (shredded)
a Cinnamon bun (320 calories... YIIIIKES!!!)

Snack-pretzels (110 calores)
Lunch:
Rice Crispies w/ 2% milk

snack- 1/2 apple with reduced fat PB
SHOVELINGGGGGG
snack- hot chocolate

Dinner:
Chili ( shredded chicken, kidney beans, 1/2 onion, spices) w/ 2 pinces of shredded cheddar cheese

may have a small snack later... like granola bar...

welol my hockey game is on so i am going to head off. Talk to you all later!!! :)

Hey guys! Hope everyone is well. Been sick the last few days so i have been laying low all around. Took a good 4-5 day break from working out... due to not being able to get up the energy to run or the ability to breathe through my nose!
Yesterday at lunch I ventured back to the gym for the first time and it was a good 5K run on the treadmill and then arm day. Later that day, i felt a little 'tweak' in the area on the back of my leg behind my knee. It isnt an intense pain... and i only really feel it when i straighten my knee. I am wondering if i possibly pulled a tendon. It was my first day back after a few adys off, i did not stretch before hand, and i also ran on a slight 1.0 incline. I wonder what the deal is. I took some advil today and put an ice pack on it for a half hour. It doesnt bother me unless i am pushing on it or locking my knee straight.

Any thoughts?

I am pretty bummed about this thought because i have my 2nd race of the frozen foot series this sunday! its a huge bummer. I will run it regardless... but id like to be 100%! i have a few days though... maybe things will cool down with the knee. There is no swelling or bruising. I was also wearing my knee brace. There is no joint or bone pain. It is the same knee that normally give me problems.

Soooo. that being said i am torn between what is best for me this week. I am so motivated to work hard and get ready for my race sunday.... but i dont want to really hurt myself eiether. I am thinking tonight i will do the cybex/elliptical machine and work back and abs... then tomorrow try to run again... im not sure though.

i am bull headed... obviously.... but advice is welcome.

Today i am weighing in at 122.8 I have not seen the 122's since beginning of decemeber so that is exciting. Trying very hard to watch the snacking and keep track of calories as best as i can. Here in PA we have what is called 'fat tuesday'..... or also known as fausnaught day. Pretty much an excuse for people to gorge themselves on donuts. I am happy to say i did not have even ONE donut!! :) I chose to grab some plain animal crackers instead!:bleh:

other than that ... life has been great. Had a WONDERFUL valentines day with the love of my life... it was an incredible weekend!!! Hope you all are doing well! I miss getting in here more often and posting. I am going to make an effort to def get inhere and visit more frequently... maybe at least once every other day!!!

Talk to you guys later!!!
Mis

Hi Melissa. Glad to hear you are doing well, other than your knee of course. If it were me, I'd be calling my orthopedic doctor and asking for an appointment just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't want to tear something even worse than it already is.

I hope you get it figured out.

Derrick

M Marie...

How did you do it?! Seriously, you look awesome!

What kind of workouts do you do? What's a typical week look like for you?

Hey Melissa. My advice (as a massage therapist) is to get into a physio... NOW!!! The biggest problem with the knee is that we use it all the time!! Taking a break from running by using the eliptical is not the answer, b/c your still putting the knee through a repetitive movement. If you have any ligament damage at all, your knee will not be tracking properly and then you end up with serious problems, resulting in drastic medical measures (ie: surgery). So much can be prevented through physio and later, accupunture. Be kind to your knees... think of all they do for you in a day. Please go get them checked out properly!!!

Sorry for the lecture, I just see so much of it and have also seen some amazing results!!
Marie

ps: YOU ROCK :)

Thanks Guys!

Knee has been feeling fine last few days. I think it was just a sore muscle from it taking a short brake and then being worked super hard the first day back in action.

Yesterday i ran my 5K race. I was a bit pissed off during and after it but hey... thats life. Can't have every race be the best race so oh well
I ended up getting a really bad cramp right under my rib cage and then also up under my collar bone. I am pretty much sure its because i ate ALOT of spagetti for lunch and while that is good fuel for a run... i ate it about 2 hours before the race and it was still sitting in my stomach when race time came. I think between it not being burned off much yet and then also the acidic sauce they used to make it... i was just a disaster. I ended up running a 24:24... which is NOT a great time for me. I did however still come in 2nd in my age group. Im just hard on myself.. .and was mad i didnt do better. For what its worth though i pushed through the pain and finished strong.

My weight has been maintaining down in the lower 120's the last week... so i think i am past my 125-128 range and now have hit my new range of 121-123. That is super exciting. This morning i was 123.0.... so this is progress i'd say! :)

On saturday, the day before my race, i ran a 6.3 mile run around my town. It was nice and cool outside but not windy and snowy like most days have been lately so that was a super nice change. I felt so FREEEEE running casually outside.... it was super refreshing.

I have been conciously making my daily snack less and less lately... trying to just trim some of those unneeded extra calories so that i can stay within my caloric intake needed to drop the few remaining pounds that i have to get rid of yet.

Life has been good... nothing too crazy or exciting to report... but i wanted to stop in and update everyone on my progress and my race this weekend.

as for my knee... it feels A-OK for now.

Thanks all for your concern and words of advice!

Hey Melissa - great work keeping your weight down! A whole year you have made it - you should be really proud!! I know myself I haven't been to the maintaining stage yet but whenever I go off track I gain like crazy so I am going to have to really focus once I get this weight off for good.
How are your dogs doing? Are they getting any bigger? What about your tattoo? Did it heal well? Good to see you here more often - take care.

hey girl. Dogs are great! bad bad bad but they are my babies.. so i love them hehe. They are adults so they are full grown thank god!!! :) My tattoo is alright.. healed fine... but im not thrilled with some of the lines... they are shakey in some places... im sure due to my being a bit jumpy where it hurt!

Re: I've got the runnnnnns :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
aw, thanks shannon and cabbie

Yesterday i ran some hills and inclines over lunch. ended up the lunch run with 5.2 miles. It was a great run and i felt awesome! Today i ran two loops in the buisness park that i work in. that was only 4 miles but it felt nice to run so much lately!

Feeling pretty good. A little sore from so much hill running and activity.. but feels awesome!
Work has been stressing me the hell out!!!! In sales and things are DOWN DOWN DOWN right now ugh

Hanging in there today weighing 123..... got my girly thing today too so thats a good weight for me all things considred.

I registered myself yesterday officially for the 'Danville Humdinger'.... its a 7 mile run... on all kinds of terrain. Its not this weekend, its next weekend... whooooie am i excited. its gonna be a toughie.. but fun!!! Been trying to eat well lately. Obviously the occasional healthy snack now and then since i need something sometimes between meals.
For dinner tonight i am making pesto and sundried tomato grilled chicken with a side salad with bleu cheese, crasins, and almonds.

anyways, im going to get out an about and see some journals

Hello! It has been a long freakin time since I was on here so how about an update shall we?

Lets see. First, I would like to let everyone know that this past Saturday I participated in and compelted a humdinger race. It’s a 7.10 mile race that has you pretty much going from running on flat trails, to running in shin deep snow, running over ice, running in ankle deep mud, and running down hills that propel you so fast that you must run into trees to slow yourself down. It was INCREDIBLE. Here is the link if you want to see some pictures of the course… its ridiculous! :
I have to be honest and say this was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life… but one of the most fun and rewarding as well! I actually finished 11th for women overall and 4th in my age group. I was only 20 seconds behind the girl who beat me! It was awesome. I have attached a pretty funny picture of me right after I finished…. I was WHOOPED! I finished in 1hr 24minutes.

Another update. Since this past Friday I have run a total of 29.80 miles!!! The humdinger really inspired me to kick my mileage up a notch and get some ground covered! My half marathon is going to be may1st and my marathon is oct 10th… so its time to get serious!
Other than that just been enjoying the gorgeous weather we have this week here in PA. Starting Thursday though its about to get rainy and yucky for the next 4-5 days. Blah.

Oh, and feel free to check out my workouts here! I post on here… but I keep this guy up to date with how far I ran and how it went!

Talk to you guys later!!! ?

Hey that sounds just like you described, hard but fun. Congrats on your continued progressed. You are an awesome runner and athlete now. I hope you have a life long journey full of awesome running adventures.

WoW! I read the website and looked at the pics. It looks hard but I think that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...you go girl!:smilielol5::smilielol5:

Hello everyone!!:waving:
WOW! Its been a long ass time since i have gotten on here and said much of anything! Its not because i do not care about this site any more and its certainly not because i have made all my goals and feel that i can abandon my journal. Life has been super hectic and busy for me the last id say... 4-5 months. One part of the stress is my job. Its in the sales role.... and its dependant on people needing to take personal loans... with the economy the way it is right now... yikes. so ALL my time at work has to be focused.... so i can keep my job. SO- before a good bit of my time at work id spend on wlf ( down time of course hehe)

Also, i have been very much enjoying this beautiful weather we have here the last few weeks!! WOW! i LOVE SPRING!:hurray:

Anyhow lets see what is new?
Well 3/14- i completed the 3rd race for the Frozen Foot 5K series this winter ( jan, feb, march races) I came in 2nd place overall for my age group so that was exciting. i wanted first of course... but 2nd is better than not having run at all!

I have been keeping track of all of my mileage for running on daily mile so here is the link if you ever want to see what my runs are like....

I have been increasing my mileage so that i am well prepared for my half marathon race this spring and my marathon race this fall. My half is scheduled for May 1st!!!:willy_nilly:

lets see...

Ive been 121-122 for the last 2-3 weeks... and have not seen my dreaded 128 for a good month so i think im over that hump.

I have some updated shots.... but i think these are my last ones for quite some time... i am not seeing drastic changes anymore... which tells me i am close to my healthy weight.... even from 7 months ago pics until now... not much change... which is a bummer because i have worked super hard.... but i think the changes are probably just alot more subtle than the changes you see when you first get rolling.

added two starting pics... just for the fun of it hehe:puke:

Wow Melissa, you look fantastic!!! The fact that you have been so busy, and yet stayed on track for the last 4-5mths is just awesome!! I thought of you yesterday when I registered for a running clinic... a true inspiration... thanks :)

Hi Melissa, I'm slowly going through your entire diary and just wanted to say that you're an inspiration to me! I plan to incorporate workouts in my lifestyle - goal is to run in a 5k race. :) I hope you keep updating this diary!

dietgurl- I am so excited that my posts have been at least a little bit motivational! If you have a journal ill make every effort to stop in periodically and cheer you on!!! :)

Today I woke up super grumpy...... which means one thing: TOM was on the way. boo.
Anyways, had a 5k race scheduled for 10:00am. My sweetheart now races with me which is really awesome that we have a hobbie that we can share together. we ran to dennys so that we could get fueled up for the race. I had 1.5 whole wheat blueberry pancakes. rather than butter and syrup i actually topped it with low fat vanilla yogurt... and it was wonderful! I also had 2 strips of turkey bacon and some coffee.

The race went well considering i wasnt really in the racing mood! I ran a 23:10... which is not my best time by any means... but it was moderate so... i cant complain. i was 64th over all out of 370 people.

For lunch we went to chipoltle and i had a pulled pork burrito. It had black beans, cilantro rice, lettuce, medium salsa, and a little cheese. large lunch thats for sure. Dinner time came and i was NOT ready for another meal... so around 7:00 we decided to go to dairy queen and i had a yummy yummy small blizzard.

NOT a healthy food day at all lol... but cut me some slack... im majorly pmsing... and i got 32 miles in this week... so I decided to treat myself :drool5:

Tomorrow is another day though :) Its back to the grind. We had about 5 straight days of gorgeous warm weather... tomorrow is suppose to pour... so before work my sister and i are planning to hit the gym.... i am all packed and ready to go so there are really no excuses to be had... i better get my ass there!!!:smash:

Well... im off to read a few posts etc.... im kind bummed that since i dont visit so often these days ive lost alot of my forum buddies..... im gonna have to seek them out and say whats up... my journal im sure has become boring as of late hehe.

Bye guys!!!!

I had joined WLF a while ago by accidentally stumbling across your before and current post. I needed a little motivation lately so went back on and decided to read your diary. Ohmygod it is long, hahaha! But being sick with the flu for a week gives you lots of free time.

Congratulations on reaching all those goals, your outstanding and super motivational! I swear your beginning measurments were identical to mine (except for the boob department) and Im close to your height (5'4''). So you're my new role model :)

Racing sounds like a great thing to get into. My boyfriend races his car at the track and I think it'd be cool if we were both into "racing" and supporting eachother knowing what the other is going through. Obviously running is more physical but still both are intense.

*thinking of starting a diary*

Keep up the awesome-ness! :hurray:
