Herbally Progress Pictures

I'd like to shed a few pounds of fat, and first and foremost gain a chest(never had one...wondering what'd be like...lol). I welcome any comments. I also wouldn't mind hearing where you think I should focus my attention first.

These pictures are 1 month into my new workout regimen. Just curious I'm doing so far.

Thanks,
Brett

I can see the pics just fine, and I personally think you're hot just the way you are. But I know how guys are... wanting to be all ripped. I'll let them answer how to accomplish THAT. But from my point of view, I think you look great already.

You welcome any comments? You are NOT fat. You might be nuts, but ur NOT fat. Crazy kids, some of us older guys would kill to look like that.

You look great right now, not fat at all. Great arms btw. I can't comment on your routine bc I have no idea what you are doing. I would focus on chest (thats your big goal right?) with hitting compound moves for the most part. How are your legs? Hit your core with squats and deadlifts and a couple weighted ab exercises including planks which will help your big lifts. Try to hold each plank for two min's at a time. Talk to Evo about some of the things you should be doing as far as bulking the chest, Evo has a killer chest :D Your doing great so far, keep up the great work and your goals will be achieved in no time. Good luck!

thanks for the comments! I don't really consider myself fat just not real muscular...I just couldn't think of a good subject line...lol

I'm doing a 3 day split right now, running on days off(with an exception here or there), and I've already been doing squats, and deadlifts for my bird legs. I've just been doing knee raises for abs(I don't really feel like I get a good ab workout....any advice there would be grand).

Mon - Running
Tues - Chest/Triceps
Wed - Back/Biceps
Thurs - Running/Abs
Fri - Legs/Shoulders
Sat - Running
Sun - Running

When I say running I mean I run on an elliptical machine for about 40-45 mins.

As far as chest I've just been doing bench, incline, peckdeck/decline. I know I need to focus attention there, but I was wondering if there's any particular exercises that might be better suited for my chest (upper lower inner...got no clue where mine's most lacking, I just know its not adequate). Furthermore, I have no idea what exercises are compound moves, and not real sure the added benefit aside from it working several muscle groups at once.

Also, my posture really really sucks....I'm in a deskchair at least 8 or 10 hours a day! I'm sure my lower back needs a good workout, but all I'm doing for that so far is weighted back extensions and deadlift.

Look forward to more advice! Thanks in advance!

Compounds are things like squats and deadlifts, benchpress. In other words exercises that use more that one target muscle and hit the stabilizers.
As far as abs weighted exercises would be good- weighted cruches, weighted reverse crunches, suitcase lifts. Planks are essential they hit the entire core, front planks, and side planks. Once you can hold them for 2 min's thats good.
Hanging leg raises are good if you do them right and when you get comfortable you can add weight. As far as posture try to make sure your workout is balanced and hit the weak areas harder. I would lump your back, chest and arms together. You benching hits the bi's too.Pull ups are great for your arms and back and core. Try doing some db benching alternately with the bb benching. Add shrugs to the end of your deadlifts to hit your traps too. Bulgarian split squats are an evil leg exercise and great for balance too. I would hit legs and abs the same day. Of your could do 3 full body days. Whatever you'd like really. Good mornings are good for your back as well. Sorry this is all over the place, I'm writing in a hurry  I can 't think of too much else other than making sure your diet is good and clean and that you are eating enough and often enough. That's all I think. Sorry for the mess again.

It just dawned on me that I posted this in Women's Health. My bad...hopefully an moderator can move me into Men's Health.

Thanks

Oh, I can see the pictures now.

You look great man, you're most definitely off to a great start.

You say you do an elliptical for 40-45 minutes. You could think about doing some HIIT, just to mix it up. I find that my body responds best when I mix up my cardio a lot - you know, to keep it guessing.

Just curious, what is your body fat %?

What's your overall goal?

If it was to gain more lean mass then I'd suggest to do a nice bulk for the next 3 months or so then cut.

Well, I'm not trying to get huge, but I would like to bulk up my chest for sure. I inherited my father's non-existent chest, and have never done anything about it. The time has come. My main goal is just to replace most of the fat with muscle. Honestly, I don't care if I weigh 160 when its said and done so long as I get rid of most of the fat on my belly, sides, and lower back, and have a decent looking chest.

I'm 5'9" 160lbs btw.

I'm not really sure about my body fat %. If I guessed I'd say prolly 15-20....but I've NEVER measured it so even my guess is probably pretty skewed.

Also, I have been thinking about doing the HIIT, but don't know anything about it yet. Was planning on doing some research this week so I can incorporate it into my workout. Guess I'll go ahead and jump on that. Seems like everyone on this forum does it so it must be good.

Also, Jenn, I've already been doing shoulder shrugs. I've been trying to find a good weighted ab workout, but the only one I've tried thus far is weighted cable crunches which feel a bit awkward. Maybe I just need to get used to them. When you say lump arms, back, and chest together is that also including shoulders? Forgive me, I'm a complete noob. This forum is damn helpful though!

Oh, also, I tried doing pull-ups last time I worked out my back and could barely get 1(I can usually do more...maybe I should've done them first). I'll check out those bulgarian squats too.

Sorry for the lengthy post!

Thanks for the input btw!

Its been about a month or so since I posted those pics, so here are a couple updates. Call me crazy, but I think I'm seeing some definition in my chest. Woohoo!

Time for some updates I guess. I'd like to hear what everyone else sees so far. Here's a comparison of the august pic versus now.

HUUUUGEEE Improvement, great job bud.

I hope you took tony's advice, you are rounding your shoulders. Try some dorsal delt exercises (aka posterior delts)
