by definition, you would be trying to slim down, as in lose the body fat.

bulking would be building muscle. but beware, sometimes while cutting, u might lose some muscle mass. but only a slight %.

most people eat about 2k-3k calories a day to get cut , depending on the persons' stature/size/weight,

&

bulking would be 3.5k-4.5k, surplus to build muscle
 
so what would be the best way of cutting????would running work....and if so how long should i run and how often?

best way to BURN FAT, and less chance of burning muscle. well from what i've heard. its VERY EFFECTIVE!

this is how it works:

next time u run. or w/e cardio u do

cardio up to 30 minutes :::

~ 3 minutes full pace :sprint/run:
~ 2 minutes break - jog/walk
~ repeat process for up to 30 minutes.

try it. its really effective in burning fat.
cardio 3-4 times a week is sufficient.

regular cardio, if done more than 30 minutes, ur actually gonna burn your muscle cells because you'd be overtraining.
 
kk thinks alot for the help....i just desided i wanted to get healthy....but i didnt realy no were to start...i have herd that u cant cut and bulk at the same time...is this true????and if so how long should i cut till i start to bulk??
 
The most effective way to cut is to refashion your diet. I don't know how big you are but 2000 calories is a good place to start for shedding fat at a healthy and quick rate. Eat 5 small meals a day at about 400 calories per meal (or 3 larger 500 calorie meals with 2 healthy snacks). Space out the meals about 3 hours apart and eat healthy foods like salmon, nuts, chicken, lean beef, fortified eggs, etc.

Exercising is also important in cutting. Weight train and do cardio on your off days. Find a good routine that works for you and your schedule and be sure to keep it going.

if u bulk , u eat more
if you cut, u eat slightly less, without starving ur self, u dont want to lose ur muscle

with 1 lb of muscle, u burn 50 calories, so basically keeping ur muscle that u have already developed intact!

u should only cut if ur overweight at first, because overweight people need to lose the extra lbs. cutting would allow you to see definition and get toned.

if ur fat and u bulk, ur gonna see urself be HUGE, as in HUGE, u want definition right? cut first

so what whats ur weight/height/body fat%? :rolleyes:
 
I would bulk first then cut. Bulking first really speeds the cutting process along since a pound of muscle gained burns an extra 50 calories a day, just sitting there. Bulking can take anywhere between 2-6 months or even longer. However, if you're already quite overweight, cutting and bulking with a clean slate is fine too. It's not so much how long you cut rather how much you cut and that depends on your current stats, your dedication, and your regimen.

ok 18% eh? if ur 18% , depends on u, HIppo said u should bulk, i'd cut because u probably have a bad diet. u should start out clean.

cut, eat clean food

get bout 14% or so, and start bulkin, and den cut again. once ur 10% or so, ur gonna be pretty ripped. well imo
