Help with new machinery!

It's been a while since I've posted. I moved, and I had to drop my gym membership. Now I'm in a condo building in a much larger city, and it has its own gym. The strength training will consist of a large machine of that type that you have to alter it with every different muscle group. Or use weights, but I'm afraid I don't know how to use those properly. I prefer the resistence machines

This machine only has a few exercises listed on it that I can follow. Some of the muscle groups (calves, obliques) I can do on my own. But, what can I do for glutes? And what about the hip muscles and hamstrings? If I find out the name of the machine, can someone maybe guide me towards more exercises I can do on it? I can't afford to join a gym, so this is all I have.

As an aside, I can't stand lunges...

Pistols are a great lower body exercise, give those a whirl. Most of the time the universal machines have very little (except extensions/curls) for the lower body. So you might be stuck doing some lunges, or at the very least body squats and pistols.

That seems to be it - there are few exercises for the lower back, abs and legs. I need legs and lower back exercises (and the glutes, obviously). What are pistols?

I'll just have to suck it up and do lunges/squats...

It's like a one legged body weight squat.. If you google it, I'm sure you'll find instructional vids.
