Help With Heart Rate Monitor...

Hi, all...

I just purchased an F4 heart monitor, by Polar. For my first test, I did something pretty light. Twenty minutes of jogging a rectangular soccer field, one lap with a 5kg medicine ball, one lap just jogging open-handed. I checked the monitor, & it read I had burned 450 calories!

Here's the background --- I'm 25-years-old, weigh around 90kgs. Last year, I shrunk down to a super-fit 77kgs at my lowest, but pretty much levelled out to a very respectable-looking 82kgs (an extended holiday accounts for my current predicament). I'm 5'8" & have broad shoulders, so, in doing lots of cardio & avoiding weights (which I just hate doing), I know my body isn't the best type for what I'm trying to achieve, & have achieved in the past (super-lean).

I just look like a normal person at the mo, visibly softer, but not fat-looking (even though my abs are now just faintly visible behind a lot of flab). My fitness is probably better than most people on the street, but its very poor by my own standards.

I was never uncomfortable in this 20-minute jog, so I figure I can't have burned many calories. Does 450 sound inaccurately high to anyone? I feel like I couldn't possibly have gotten a proper reading.

Thanks, guys.
